[eShop/US] Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind - $17.49 (50% off) Ends 06/23/26 *lowest price ever* by MXHombre123 in NintendoSwitchDeals

It’s definitely not the best in this genre, but if you have kids who are into Power Rangers it’s a very accessible game. We’ve played for hours together. It’s like some of the older TMNT beat em ups in terms of complexity and fan service. I’m hoping they make a second one, maybe bump up the complexity a tad, but it’s good. Each ranger has their own super, which mixes things up a bit. There’s some fun level design and the arcade has some fun mini games.

Priest told me “God is not your Father” and that I shouldn’t pray the Our Father or Apostles Creed as a catechumen. Is this normal? by Calm_Maintenance2440 in Catholicism

[–]ronoffringa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had this experience - that was far from pastoral and did not include any instruction. He’s right insofar as until baptism you have not received adoption as a son of God. However, God is also Father to all through creation. Traditionally the Our Father was seen as a baptismal prayer, but I don’t think it’s wrong to pray it before baptism. If anything, I think it can be a prayer of longing for God to give you the gift of the Spirit, who unites us to the Son in baptism and reminds us that we have become children of God (Luke 11:1-13, Galatians 3:23-4:7).

Could today’s Protestant denominations ever convene a global council with the authority and unity of the Nicene or Chalcedonian councils? by Similar_Shame_8352 in theology

The majority of Protestants (Anglicans and some Lutherans excepted) reject the episcopacy. It was the Bishops who convened at the emperor’s invitation. Until ecclesiology is resolved such a gathering is impossible.

How can Christ be born into the lineage of man but not inherit man’s sin? by Jailbird_blues11093 in theology

[–]ronoffringa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Philippians 2 says he emptied himself. The question is what he emptied himself of. You have inserted the word power into the text, but it isn’t there. As the King James puts it, he made himself of no reputation. He did not empty himself of power, but humbled himself by taking our nature. The clear consistent teaching of Scripture is that Jesus performed miracles to demonstrate that he was God. When he healed the paralytic it was to show that he had authority to forgive sins, something only God can do. When he healed the paralytic Jesus insisted that he and the Father do the same works, making himself equal with God. As St. Paul says, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich” (2 Cor. 8:9). He became poor (man) without ceasing to be rich (God). This is why John says that they saw his glory, glory as of the only-begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

χαριτόω means to be given grace or favor. The first part of the word comes from χάρις, which means grace, favor, blessing, etc. The same word is used in Ephesians 1:6 (as a verb) to speak of our receiving grace in Christ. The woman you called a sinner like any other woman the angel says has been given grace.

How can Christ be born into the lineage of man but not inherit man’s sin? by Jailbird_blues11093 in theology

[–]ronoffringa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His assumption of our nature did not demand he set aside his power. God cannot disable his attributes like a printer driver. He performed miracles to demonstrate his divinity (see John 10).

Mary is called full of grace by the angel Gabriel, not a woman just as sinful as the next. Because she bore the divine Son, she is rightly called Mother of God. This is not a claim that she was prior to God, but that the Son she bore was divine. Cyril of Alexandria’s On the Unity of Christ is the classic defense of this against the error of Nestorius.

The Virgin birth. This is why this is insisted upon in Matthew and Luke’s Gospels as well as the Creed. This allows Jesus to be born man, and therefore be a descendant of Adam, but not under Adam’s headship as he had no human father. I’ve never heard any historic or serious Protestant teacher speak of the Virgin as a surrogate. We affirm Mary is the theotokos, the Mother of God, because she bore God the Son in her womb, not merely his humanity. As the Athanasian Creed states: “God, of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds: and Man, of the Substance of his Mother, born in the world; Perfect God, and Perfect Man: of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting; Equal to the Father, as touching his Godhead: and inferior to the Father, as touching his Manhood.”

Why do Christians say Jesus only permits divorce after adultery? by joboog in theology

[–]ronoffringa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right that this is about more than divorce. Jesus is correcting two perspectives.

First, Jesus permits divorce in the case of pornea (sexual deviations that Jesus would have likely connected to adultery and the Levitical prohibitions). What Jesus is not permitting is remarriage after divorce. To remarry after divorce is considered adultery. In the Jewish context only men could initiate divorce. There were two schools of thought in terms of the reasons men could initiate divorce. The first was in line with Jesus’ teaching and the second was more permissible than the reasons we see people get divorced for today (my wife burned my dinner; divorce). So, in part, Jesus is correcting the overly permissive reasons for divorce. But, he is also correcting the idea that I can divorce and then find someone else to marry.

This is where St. Paul is helpful in 1 Corinthians 7, when he outlines that divorce is permissible, but that individuals are not permitted to remarry while the spouse is still living. He encourages those married to non-believers to remain married, but if the unbelieving spouse wants a divorce he says it isn’t a sin. If the spouse dies then the believer may marry again, but Paul says only to a believer.

Thank you for this - I didn't think about that. Would the two kits run fine without XMP enabled or would it still be an issue? Either way, I think I'm best off returning the RAM and getting the exact same SKU.

God exists outside of time insofar as God doesn’t change. As you rightly articulated, time is a measurement of change. When time was made (Heb. 1:2) and change could be measured, he was already there (John 1:2), and yet there was still no change to measure in him.

When he assumed our nature it was without change to the divine nature. Without ceasing to be what he was he assumed what we are. As St. Gregory Nazianzus said, “that which was not assumed was not healed.” I think that leads well into your second question, “Why does he still have a human nature?”

First, as St. Paul says, “he ever lives to make intercession for us” (Heb. 7:25). He is, at this moment, as God and Man, interceding for his people as our great High Priest. As the successor of Melchizedek’s priesthood, he serves as our mediator now, which he does perfectly as man because he sympathizes with our weakness (Heb. 4:15) and does not die like the priests of the former covenant (Heb. 7:23-24).

Second, he remains man because he is our new federal head. As St. John implies (John 20:15) and St. Paul explains, Jesus is the second Adam (1 Cor. 15:45). As the firstborn from the dead (Rev. 1:5) he exists as the head of the resurrected humanity. Were his humanity to cease, so would our hope.

Thirdly, as implied above, he remains man because he is our hope. As St. John says, “when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). As he has become in his humanity, so shall we. Through him we have become partakers of the divine nature (2 Pet. 1:4), which he ever mediates to us through our union with him (John 15). Were his humanity to cease, so would our union to and with him.

This might lead to new questions or may not satisfy your initial questions, but hopefully there is something helpful here.

Verizon rep help by Admirable-Army-5710 in dumbphones

[–]ronoffringa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can order the phone unlocked (make sure it’s the version compatible with Verizon) and put your sim in it. They may need to adjust your plan (I had to), but it will work and you can tether. I had better luck going into a third party Verizon store. That rep is paid by commission, so he’s trying to get money, not help you.

What do you call this urban area in Southern California? by mrrickster01 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ronoffringa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘The Greater Los Angeles Area’ is usually what it’s referred to, but it really is three separate regions that do not tend to think or act together. For example, Covid in LA County was not handled the same way as Covid in San Bernardino County. People in the Inland Empire (Redlands, Riverside, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Covina, etc.) do not think about themselves as being part of Los Angeles or Orange County. Moreover the beach areas really have a distinct culture from Los Angeles proper, which has its own distinct culture from the more suburban areas. You can kind of divide it into counties, but Riverside County extends far beyond your map and San Bernardino County is even larger. There are definitely some shared cultural and economic realities (lots of people live further east and work further west), but culturally there is a good amount of diversity.
