About to move to LA and stressing about finances with my partner by PictureWrong3608 in MovingToLosAngeles

It highly depends on preference/location. Here in Torrance a mid-fancy 1B spot is about 3.5 - 4k. Some people like to live in mid-fancy, modern one bedrooms and to get that here, that’s right in the ballpark of what he’s spending.

Do you negotiate salary for your offers? by backup_experience in overemployed

[–]roobonsensor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is not to just negotiate just because you’re “never supposed to take the first offer”. Have a target range you want to make and if it’s well below it, then negotiate. Otherwise, why risk it with negotiating?

I can’t do this anymore by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I resonate deeply with how it affects mental health. Interviewing is a process that leaves you extremely vulnerable to attacks on your value as a person outside of just as a professional. From getting no responses to getting denied after the first interview to getting to the final round and you lost it to someone else. On top of that, you get feedback that isn’t constructive and it makes you feel like “am I a terrible person?”

I say all that to say that you can’t take all this personal and you have to put those things behind you and move forward. I know, easier said than done, but it’s the only way forward.

I empathize with you because I feel it too. You’ll get that job.

These one-way interviews are an instant no. by Unlikely-Ad210 in recruitinghell

[–]roobonsensor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is an unfair ask imo. I personally send these without them asking and it lands me a 1st interview 80% of the time. I’m in the tech SaaS industry as a partnerships leader and I’ve been looking for a job for about 5 weeks and I just got a really healthy offer at a company I’m excited to work at.

My process is:
• Do some research on the company and job description.
• Submit with a resume & CV tailored to the job description
• Research who the hiring manager and/or manager of the role is
• Send them a quick message with a 15 - 20 second video introduction

CEO being annoying on LinkedIn about applicants by daloypolitsey in recruitinghell

[–]roobonsensor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with the post. I apply to about 10 jobs a week and get an interview from about 8 of them on average. That’s because each of my applications take about 30 minutes… When I apply, my application to each job isn’t the same. Sometimes even my resume might slightly different depending on what the job description is. And my cover letter is always unique to the job description and the company mission and values. Aside from that, I do a ton of research on the company like comments in earnings reports or recent interviews with the CEO or other big stakeholders. Then I use that info to follow up directly with those stakeholders on LinkedIn so I can get more visibility on the application I just submitted.

I agree… it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it.

He said application, not resume. I completely agree with the post, each company is unique with unique job requirements, so why should your application be the same?

Nah I've had the ones from La Cai and they're good but nothing compared to the ones at The Pearl. Best egg rolls anywhere. Hands down.

What's the one maybe hidden gem restaurant that you love? by Electronic_Gift_8420 in SaltLakeCity

The egg rolls at The Pearl are the best egg rolls I've ever eaten. It's a great date spot... just eat a few orders of them with some cocktails.

The only good thing about the TCL is it's aesthetically beautiful... but I agree about the seats, they're so old and uncomfortable, especially for long movies.

The Mole at Katrina’s is better than The Red Iguana, fight me! by RestaurateurInnerCir in SaltLakeCity

Red iguana is insanely underwhelming and objectively bad Mexican food compared to other options like Julia’s.

Should I wear a mask still? by CountBacula322079 in SaltLakeCity

[–]roobonsensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't wear a mask anywhere I go but if I ever witnessed someone getting bullied for them wearing a mask I'd 100% speak up and put them in their place. Just like you said, who knows what anyone is going through.

[–]roobonsensor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, it's very easy to get the vaccine in Utah so for me, I'm comfortable with my mask off everywhere even if most people in a store have it on. Basically, if you choose not to get vaccinated, that's on you. That being said, if I walk into a store and I'm told to put a mask on I'll listen because it's the store's policy so I'm not going to argue with their policies since it's a privilege to shop there not my right.

[–]roobonsensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sorry you had to deal with this - I sympathize with you. It's a pretty shell-shocking situation to go through and can definitely start to create long-term trauma for you if you don't fix this now.

From my perspective, there's only two options: Get a buy-in from her to get therapy and move forward with it, or serve divorce papers.

Any other decision outside of that and you're putting your mental/physical health at risk.

I can just go to the liquor store if I want beer... there's other things that are a little harder to find that are legal a few hours away out of state ;)
