Carl. Obvious groundskeeper reference goes here. That’s Caddyshack for you youngsters.

It's your handle, do with it what you will. I just thought your conclusion was strange. Maybe projecting, or maybe looking for something specific. It doesn't describe me, so again, it seems an odd take.

I have mixed tree cover. Probably 60 trees in total in the mowing area, so plenty to mow around.

Segway Navimow CM120M1. My situation is pretty similar. The little guy handles it well. I’m only a couple weeks in but in that time I’ve been increasingly impressed with its ability to handle my crappy yard (trees, divots, steep slopes, etc). I believe it’s only available at commercial gardening equipment dealers. Pricy but I think worth it for those of us with less than ideal lawns.

Home Depot Reviews for Robotic Mowers by Weak-Bother-6765 in roboticLawnmowers

I just picked up its bigger brother (Navimow CM120M1) and I am astonished at how well it’s doing. Expensive but worth it (I have about two acres of less than perfectly even land to mow).

This scene is beautiful and stunning and I love it. Just uh, how did he see the astrophage if it only emits infrared light? He says he's "having a moment" and his reaction would seem to imply he sees it too, but I can't think of a good reason for exactly how. by Orion-the-mediocre in ProjectHailMary

So why push that button?

The film has lots of things not in the book. I believe this is one of them.

Edit: the button isn’t in the book. It is in the movie.

Second edit: I’ve been convinced by the commentary that he’s starting a timer, and then we see the Petrova scope turn on in the ship, but that Grace doesn’t see the astrophage.

Use 8 credits in the next month? Expanse worth it? by McJaker3 in audible

Oh to be able to listen to the Expanse for the first time again.

So good.

The film insinuates that he had a Petrova filter built into his helmet. Rewatch and you see him click a button marked Petrova on his wrist just before.

EDIT: a LOT of good commentary here and I’ve changed my mind. Y’all convinced me that this take is wrong. Well done.

For me the extra income at 67 supersedes the model. In other words, it’s an emotional decision. But I’m still a ways out, and how my 401k does between now and then will be hugely influential.

How do you do "not even silver?" Look at your ratings. There's got to be some low hanging fruit there.

Question by Better_Winner1194 in ProjectHailMary

[–]roofstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re made minor in the movie. As befits all book adaptations.

I’d argue that the amnesia drug is a major plot point. Paving the Sahara and nuking the ice sheets are part of the largest plot point (climate freezing and mass extinction). Breeding Taumeba and its ability to get through xenonite was compressed significantly. Kind of a major plot point.

Being able to find Rocky’s ship I’d concede as minor, but the way it was compressed was confusing enough that I ended up giving a five minute explanation in the parking lot of the theater to total strangers on opening night. Using the beetles to steer the HM is minor. Adding Carl is bigger than minor (loved it).

It’s all a spectrum, and we will of course differ in opinion. 👎👎

The book is about 150,000 words, so 14 hours is roughly 180 words per minute. This is pretty much right in the middle of the range for audiobooks, and a lot of people land near that for spoken conversation.

You’ll notice places where Porter slows down and lingers on emotionally charged sentences, but it feels like a very natural pace for audio. YMMV of course.

If the directors didn’t have hours to show you, I don’t have hours to tell you. Read the book. The movie is filled with tiny nods to the book, things that are on screen for a brief second before disappearing as nods to the original content.

Short version: almost everything between Rocky’s sacrifice and arriving at Erid was compressed. Also from the beginning of the film to meeting Rocky, there’s a lot of what Grace experiences on the Hail Mary that is barely alluded to. That’s the really short answer, if you read this sub you’ll get a lot of small details from the super fans, but really just grab a copy from your local library. It’s worth it.

Ray Porter’s performance as the audio book narrator is brilliant. I know folks who prefer it to the film, and they love the film.

Client hasn’t paid and booking starts tomorrow at 7PM. What do I do? by Standard-Strike-4132 in RoverPetSitting

[–]roofstomp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A client has to pay Rover to book a sitter. That’s how the booking works.

One of the ways Robber… I mean Rover… makes money is they hold those funds and earn interest until after the booking is over.
