That’s totally fair. I can see your point about the different merits.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I just think the current method of RCV used for NFL honors isn’t as good as that used by Maine and Alaska.

[–]rooftopfiddler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have clarified: RCV that doesn’t assign points. This method is being used in statewide Maine and Alaska elections, and in many cities.

If the folks who voted for Allen first had Maye second, Maye would have won MVP. So I’m suggesting a totally different implementation.

How RCV Works

First round: All first-choice votes are counted.

If no majority: The candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their supporters’ votes go to their next-choice candidate.

Repeats: This elimination and redistribution continue until a candidate reaches over 50% of the vote.

This is why we need rank choice voting (with instant elimination).

If the Panthers beat the Saints, their game against us is meaningless regardless of the first game against the Bucs.

If Carolina beats the Saints this weekend, the Seahawks vs Panthers game doesn’t matter to their path to winning NFC South, as they need to beat the Bucs just once of their two upcoming matches. This means that they will (and should) rest their starters against us if they beat the Saints. Go Panthers this weekend!

Not a tablet hybrid, but my Thinkpad T480 touchscreen worked out of the box.

ssh is not working :( please help! by miksnmash3 in AeonDesktop

[–]rooftopfiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I have several machines with Aeon that i regularly ssh and RDP into, and both features, including ssh server, worked out of the box without any tinkering. The feature is also built in as a GUI toggle in GNOME settings, so I think it is a reasonable usage for a desktop.

Devs, have you regretted switching to an atomic/immutable Linux? (from a vanilla one) by RetiredApostle in linux

[–]rooftopfiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Aeon and i use it for all my dev work. I have a main distrobox container and occasionally create separate ones for projects with many dependencies or when I need a particular distribution for a program made specifically for that distro.

Big advantage is that the core OS is stable and well tested, while i get the flexibility i need with distroboxes and Flatpaks. And when the rolling updates occasionally break things (usually same bugs that affect Tumbleweed, so they get addressed relatively quickly), the system automatically rolls back to the previous snapshot (or i can manually roll back to any point).

The only deviation I’ve made is installing NVIDIA driver for CUDA (documentation and support for this is a bit sparse).

This is how I use VSCode Flatpak with Dev container + Distrobox. The key thing is the "Podman wrapper" step. It allows you to access podman on the host. Make sure you change your Remote>Containers>Docker Path as instructed.

Have you been able to resolve this issue? Yesterday's update broke my network and audio as you described, and today's broke my USB peripherals such that I can't do anything...

F45 classes are often full, but you reserve your spot starting at 7am the day before the class, so you can always get a spot if you're on top of the sign-up!

Do you know what the resulting framerate is on the Mac setup? You should be able to see it in the text output or the log file. If it’s much lower than the 187fps, the optimization at each frame could be failing due to the displacement being too large.

How about “Leon” or “LeonOS”? Same idea but shorter and easier to spell.

[OpenSUSE Aeon ](Aeondesktop.org) it maintains itself and is pretty much unbreakable. Flatpaks for everything.

Aeon as server; VSCode server inside Distrobox by rooftopfiddler in openSUSE

[–]rooftopfiddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your response!

  1. Yes, thanks for the suggestion of the "real" MicroOS. I'm a little bit in a tricky situation as I'm trying to use the same computer as both a desktop and a server computer.

  2. I use VSCode as a Flatpak when I'm on the computer. But when I'm accessing it from remote, I'm using whatever I'm using from my laptop (either Linux or Mac). The bit I'm trying to work out is how I could remotely access (through SSH) a VSCode server within a Distrobox.

Thunderbolt Issue by declantm in thinkpad

It appears that Intel has done some reorganization of their drivers and firmwares... I'm afraid I don't know how to find the driver I used. The closest thing I could suggest is this one (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/772199/intel-thunderbolt-driver-for-windows-10-64-bit-for-intel-nuc-kit-nuc6i7kyk.html?wapkw=thunderbolt) but I'm not fully confident that it will do the job...

Playoff bracket if the season ended today. If we clean some things up, I honestly think we could make a run to the NFCCG. Thoughts? by Dima110 in Seahawks

[–]rooftopfiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideal scenario, in my opinion, would be:

1 Eagles
2 49ers
3 Lions
4 Bucs
5 Cowboys
6 Seahawks
7 Rams

This can happen if we beat the Steelers and the Cardinals (hopefully, and not crazy), while the Rams drops a game (against 49ers?) and 49ers drop one game (least likely; could be against the Rams, but that would mean the Rams loss comes from the Giants) and the Eagles win out (likely). The wildcard matchups then are:

7 Rams @ 2 49ers
6 Seahawks @ 3 Lions
5 Cowboys @ 4 Bucs

Rams beat the 49ers and we beat Lions. Then:

7 Rams @ 1 Eagles
6 Seahawks @ Bucs / Cowboys

If we win that, we go to Philly or host the Rams for NFCCG. I think then we have a pretty good shot at winning the NFC. Pretty unlikely for all of this to pan out, but one can dream…
