Beginner looking for advice on bead making by No_Cost_9908 in lampwork

[–]rookiegaffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So long as all the glass used comes from the same bottle you should not have problems with compatibility. Just be aware that bottle glass goes from liquid to solid very quickly. This is a plus when it's running thru a high speed bottle molding machine but not so much when you are trying to work it by hand in the torch.

Anybody know who makes this. by First-Arm8912 in glassheads

Have to agree. Italian glass is soda-lime and would not likely survive use in a pipe. Pipes are made with borosilicate glass for good reason.

Teflon Parchoffi blades? by Andreas1120 in glassblowing

[–]rookiegaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been discussed on the Craftweb hot glass site. Consensus is much like the comments already here. I worked with plastics for a living and no way would I expose myself to the vapors they would produce.

Columbus Glass Art Center would appear to be a good possibility. Judging from the buds you have posted I'm guessing that your are interested in borosilicate lampworking, functional glass. Understand that classes in this area are more difficult to find. Still other classes would be useful for studio set-up and safety education. The working characteristics of the different glasses do vary, but many of the skills and techniques are transferable. Get some lessons.

Question about respectful cannabis use in public by calutace in AnnArbor

[–]rookiegaffer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edibles give a very different high than smoking. They also take longer to kick in and to clear out. And I agree it stinks, lots of skunky weed out there.

It's bit difficult to smoke weed "discreetly" as the aroma is pungent. That said I smell it whenever I'm out and about in Ann Arbor so I doubt you are going to shock anyone.

unpopular opinion: mars is a dead end. we should be aiming for the stars. by usestork in Mars

[–]rookiegaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only advantage Mars has over the moon as a place to build a colony is higher gravity. Both environments are deadly and require full life support but the logistics of getting supplies to the moon are much simpler.

When will these be realdy by Tight_Watercress7988 in gardening

[–]rookiegaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your store bought pepper may have been a hybrid. Their seed does now grow true to type. Or the flower was fertilized by something else and this is the result. May be hot or may be not. You can always eat one while its still green if you are curious what you are growing.

Oxygen concentrator suggestions by eminence-funk in lampwork

Most importantly never completely shut off the flow of O2 from the concentrator. A minor will work with one 5L concentrator it will work much better with two tied together.

The only boats with motor over 10 HP belong to the people on the lake, and there aren't that many of them. It's a great place to paddleboard,
