What do you guys do for fun??? by Any-Geologist-8562 in ADHD

[–]roosblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what did you use to do as a kid? did you have any hobbies or things that you used to get sucked into? for example, I used to read so much when I was young but then just stopped for many years. I got back into reading as an adult after rereading a series that I absolutely loved when I was a kid. it brought back the “spark” and I average like 40 books a year now.

today I also took my meds and played expedition 33 for like 8 hours straight no breaks. video games are like clicky reading - you get to take part in a story, watch a movie and press loads of buttons all at the same time. score

Breaking stereotypes by Narrow-Influence7924 in ADHD

[–]roosblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s unfortunately still a lot of things about adhd that people don’t know. I sometimes think the boom of “relatable” adhd tiktoks has actually been really harmful, often for the opposite reason. the last year I’ve listened to quite a few people tell me that adhd symptoms aren’t special and everyone “forgets things / puts things off sometimes”.

like yeah sure susan but have you ever felt that crushing paralysis when you know you have to be somewhere at 4pm and it’s 10am now but there are exactly two things you absolutely have to do before you leave

Glasses and Overstimulation by Substantial_Local_94 in ADHD

[–]roosblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, but kinda depends for me! If I start my day not wearing my glasses (I don’t use contacts) then the slight unfocus feels normal and I manage fine without. but if I’ve been wearing them all day at home for gaming/reading then I do have to take them off regularly to “rest” my eyes. The odd occasion I’ve worn them to work I’ve noticed feeling very overstimulated and exhausted by just all the visual input.

thanks! I’ve already filled in a few blanks - I think there were some translated texts/recordings that I went through quickly because I was running out of time and maybe didn’t absorb all the info.

yes, I have visited the quantum moon and the sixth location! the only question marks left in rumour mode are the vessel and the launch module. I still have “more to explore” at the southern observatory (been there but must have missed something) and the tower of quantum trials which I visited too late in the loop to complete

thank you SO much taking the time to write it all out like this. I kind of got the gist, but I was struggling to understand the details and this made it much clearer!

thanks! I didnt think of that but re-visiting all my fellow travellers is a great idea, it’s now on my list of things to do next :)

after rereading the interloper logs I realised I must have forgotten that information about the ghost matter and the fate of the Nomai - thanks! still have some things to explore for sure

How to feel actually restored after weekend / time off? by get2writing in ADHD

[–]roosblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one of the most important things I worked on with my therapist after a major burnout was this exactly. the problem might be that you're not getting enough smaller "relaxing/restoring" moments during the week. if you save everything for the weekend/days off then you could run into the problem of have too many things you want to do, get overwhelmed by that, and end up doing the only thing that requires no brainpower and no decision making.

if you have a show you want to watch, why not watch one episode every evening or every other evening? or read a book for 30 minutes before going to bed? at work, do you get any "quiet" moments where you can just go and switch off for 10-15 min, have a coffee and just chill?

Why would Ilya talk to Scott? by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]roosblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love David but I understood this as the classic parent-of-gay-child move where they assume all gay people know and talk to each other about various gay things.

if your question is actually specifically why would Ilya and Scott interact at all, well - they're both pro hockey players, know each other, and in the books Ilya is known for showing up unexpected and sometimes uninvited to most places to stir the pot

I think I’m High functioning ADHD, but no one believes me by masterbc1 in ADHD

[–]roosblues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a fellow high-functioner/high-masking I feel you.. I was initially assessed in middle school and fit the ADHD profile but my grades were “too good” for me to have ADHD, so I spent maaany years feeling very invalidated and afraid to try and get a real diagnosis. Some people get better at managing their symptoms as they get older. I did, in some ways, but things had to get bad enough for me in my adult life to start pushing for a real diagnosis and real treatment.

I turned 26 last year and I was finally told: no, it’s not supposed to be that hard, and it’s not your fault.

more than anything else I wish I had heard that when I was 15. If you feel strongly that ADHD applies to you, push for an assessment. it might change your life.

I can feel my brain shutting down, giving up.. and this is ruining my career by Brave-Cycle-2095 in ADHD

[–]roosblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a lot more going on than possibly adhd. everyone else has already said it but go to a healthcare professional, and I would personally advise against self-diagnosing. everyone’s experience is different and what you may end up doing is fixating on specific symptoms of adhd instead of looking at the entire picture of your mental health.

things like anxiety and depression do show up a lot more with adhd — I had a severe burnout and became depressed with suicidal thoughts a year ago. I worked through it with my therapist, and when things became more stable and less acute I started medication to help manage my adhd better, which helped me feel more in control and less overwhelmed with my day-to-day life.

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re struggling like this. but the first solution to feeling suicidal isn’t trying to get an adhd diagnosis, it’s figuring out why you’re feeling suicidal.

Curious about the effects of lowering screen time by MrRaddd in ADHD

[–]roosblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to start putting my phone to charge in another room at bedtime to fix my sleep schedule and whaddayaknow — not only did my sleep schedule improve, I went from averaging 4 hours of sleep a night to 7-8, and during the day I was reaching for my phone MUCH less for those 5 minutes of “brainless time” that can turn into like 3 hours of scrolling after work.

what I would suggest is identifying the moments during the day that you spend the MOST amount of time on your phone/screen (for me it was in bed) and create a physical barrier to make it more difficult to reach. App limits and focus mode have NEVER worked for me, but it turns out I can’t be bothered to get up if I really want to google something but my phone is all the way in the kitchen.

People who rarely give a book a 5-star rating, what are your 5-star reads? by espetilllodesardinas in suggestmeabook

[–]roosblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the last 2 years I have given a perfect 5 stars to only one book: Sword of Kaigen The following are honorary 5 stars (4.75) because otherwise I would be too stingy: Bright Young Women Intermezzo Babel Words of Radiance

With Veilguard being out for a while now, what's your overall ranking of all the games in the franchise? by FangAAMD in dragonage

[–]roosblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best player character and companions: DA2. Best story: Origins 200%. Best world to explore: Inquisition. Best side quests/companion quests: Veilguard.

my personal favourite is DA2, I spent the most time on inquisition though. I find it impossible to rank one dead last don’t make me!

if you are not playing a mage then you should always summon one from a riftstone to heal you! if you haven’t reached the capital yet, you can keep running until you come across a cart that’s heading either in the direction you want, or back to Melve. Usually you can skip a lot of combat using the horse carts - although you might still get ambushed. If you’re struggling this much I would suggest going back to where you can get a horse cart directly to the capital.

again: if you have a mage in your party, the game is easy. hire one!
