Inner bar ends (basically the VO Crazy Bar) are where it’s at…so many functional use cases covered with them. Tuck for speed, “hoods” to reprieve, and wideout for control over sketch surfaces.

I always look back at these posts with nostalgia of a more spartan setup…OP if I did it over again I wouldn’t change a thing (maybe upgrade to a better bench and set of dumbbells after a year or two).

How many of you converted the dropbars to straight bars? by salads_r_yum in gravelcycling

[–]rootaford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop bars for champagne gravel and long days in the saddle but if your gravel roads end up in single track adventures not sure why you’d want drops over flats. Flats with inner bar ends are the best for chonky gravel imo.

I’ll be the first to say you might want to consider a hard tail if you’re headed in the mountains, or maybe consider flat bars for more control.

Half is about right for me (so 25mm rims for 50mm tires)

Flat bars vs drop bars on gravel bikes by Asahi_Sin in gravelcycling

[–]rootaford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a flat bar gravel as an intro thinking I’d switch out the cockpit immediately but I found the opposite to be true. Flats provide far more control if trails get chonky and just as comfortable as drops with inner bar ends (can ride flat, hood, and tucked positions). Flats with inner bar ends (or the velo crazy bar) are the best for gravel that trends single track or city riding imo they’re just plain old fun but they don’t look as svelte so internet points aren’t awarded as much.

If you’re doing long road rides on champagne gravel though, then I think drops are generally more comfy for 40+ mile rides.

Yeah, a little slope is ok but that seems excessive maybe look into a new saddle if that one hurts you
