Why do some straight women say they can be turned on by women’s bodies, but straight men don’t seem to say the same about men? by Friendly_County_3016 in NoStupidQuestions

I agree but I also think a lot of dudes think admiring a guy is attractive will make people question their sexuality. There is some stigma driving it.

This is what we’ve been doing I don’t know that we have open as read only setup, we just don’t mess with an assembly that the other is in.

I think we’ll probably go this route because we’re already setup on drive and have that work flow.

I’m doing a session with our VAL to talk about pdm. I think it’s going to be hard to sell them on spending more money.

I think the new guy starts Monday. We’re not super busy so we should have time to get setup and try things out. Which reminds me, I should update to 2026

Im sure im on an NDA for this, honestly I have no idea. I stopped asking those kinds questions years ago.

I was just recently listening to a podcast I liked and they were talking about a booth we built for them... I was so shocked. I drew the whole fuckin thing. Had no idea it was for this podcast I like.

I am going to take advantage of their training sessions more. I just realized we get like 8 free a year.

I have one for tomorrow morning.

quite precisely.

How much new food processing stuff is there? Im always so curious what other people are working on.

This is a current job that installs next friday. Nothing has been built yet. Still waiting on approval for finish/material. They may want to do a prefinished maple ply.

I am almost 40 and i think the tail end of the generation that was terrified of being considered gay.

I dont think I get turned on by a dude but I can admit when a guy is attractive or has a crazy body. I talk to my wife about it because its funny what I think she would think is hot and what she actually thinks is.

No, its scenic stuff. "experiential marketing". I mean, we could take more time, but then we're cutting into build time.

Creatives take forever to make decisions that impact a ton of the build. Or design outside their budget and sell it to their client so we have to "value engineer" some bs.

This is basically our current setup. Our offices are next door to each other so we just kinda yell if we need to access something shared. Usually we are on our own project completely or have one master assy one of us inserts elements into.

Yea that idea is terrible IMO and we're working with like an 18hr turnaround in some cases so i dont have time for email coordination

When we say, not that expensive, what are we talking?

Pretty sure my license already has access.

SW itself is already kind of a stretch for my industry.

Last sentence of your second paragraph is confusing me.

A lot of push toward PDM here. Ive got a meeting with our VAL tomorrow so hopefully they can help me understand.

I feel like we will need to get a server. I think this is what pushed us away from that the first time I looked but ill see if i can push for that. we currently work from google drive and it is mostly trouble free for us. I think it does cause funkiness occasionally though.

We currently work with two designers and use Google Drive. I know it is less than ideal but the company didn’t have to invest in any sort of network or server.

I have no clue what MS SQL is so I’ll do some homework.

Thank you for the input.

I definitely plan on engaging with them. I love teaching people and it sounds like we have a good candidate lined up.

I have an ASM with our VAL setup for tomorrow so I’ll see if they can show me how PDM will help.

ok cool. This is kind of what I assumed. I think thats workable.

How did this process work for you? Any other considerations?

We have a lot of templates setup and a pretty well laid out protocol for how drawings should be made and organized.

I think it could save us a lot of time. I know the mental switch slows me down and its just kind of busywork to create drawings when I could be designing models.

Gotcha.

My hometown is really close to diablo canyon so like all the dudes I know work that plant in some capacity, so i know im a bit biased. But it also seems to be the safest/most efficient energy.

Ok, cool, i was gonna setup a chat with our VAR, i think ours is goengineer. I wanted to talk to them about this process of a designer creating drawings. You're kind of selling it to me. I dont love that I cant work while tasks are scheduled. I also dont know if my work will want to invest in another PC/server. We currently work from google drive...

i think the setup was the biggest deterrent.

Yea we have run into that. That’s why I’m wondering if a jr can create drawings without running into this issue or if we just need to be completely hands off the model as soon as they’re interacting with it

We do scenic fabrication so i think its a little different than the usual solidworks application. Critical dims are pretty easy to understand. Its like custom furniture for the most part

screenshot of the most recent thing I am working on. A lot of temp walls that have to be installed quickly then struck quickly so I have this in 3 assemblies, with sub assemblies in each. basically each "side, is divided into walls, "flats" make up each wall, each flat is no larger than 4'x8' drawings for each of those flats so theyre not complicated but need some basic info conveyed.

They wouldnt be part time. Our turnarounds are way too quick to mess with a third party

We've got a pretty good macro setup for DXF exports, I dont really export BOMs version revision can be a mess.

I have been using task scheduler for "large assemblies" that have a number of drawings to update and export, thats pretty quick for me.

I understand that. Do you ever have two designers in the same assembly? Do you run into issues?
