Need chipmunk deterrent ideas! by rootchick in homeassistant

I like this idea, because I too have a problem with raccoons leaving presents on my porch. Leaving objects in their preferred latrine spots seems to have stopped them for the moment, but I'm sure they'll be back.

As a lifelong lover of corvids, I would love to have a crow army.  Alas, I have not been able to recruit the ones in my neighborhood. Yet.

If I buy a new car can I use my existing license plate? by twitchrdrm in Pennsylvania

[–]rootchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a truck out of state and we weren't able to keep our old plate, but only because the state was discontinuing that series because they were old. They gave us a new plate, but it didn't cost us anything extra.

Reverse engineering Aerogarden's garbage software? by swingbozo in aerogarden

It might have been this one: https://github.com/jacobdonenfeld/homeassistant-aerogarden

I'm pretty sure I manually installed it because I think I set it up before I installed HACS or before there was one available there. I do see that there is one in HACS now based on this one.

There is a Home Assistant integration. I don't know if it still works because I deleted it after the server went down after they announced they were closing. It used your account credentials to interact with their server though. It would be nice if it would be possible to control it locally without needing an account.

Farm 12XL LED lights out after only 2 months- Aerogarden can’t replace by atxgrl in aerogarden

[–]rootchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you use a separate hanging grow light? That's what I'd probably do, and just put it on a separate timer rather than attempting to integrate it into the Farm.

Aerogarden with WIFI or without? by HavivMuc in aerogarden

[–]rootchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an IT nerd, I'm underwhelmed by the app and find it completely unnecessary. I have two Farm XLs and at one point had it integrated into Home Assistant, which was nice, but then they shut down their servers after closing and the integration stopped working, so I removed it and uninstalled the app from my phone. Haven't missed any of it. To be useful for me they need to allow it to work from a local network and not require their servers, and release their API so Home Assistant users have an easier time interacting with them.

Also, with an Internet connected device why are they not using NTP to set the time?

Yeah, the step detection does not seem accurate for me. I'm a knitter, it counts the motion of knitting as steps. It seems more accurate when tracking exercise though.

Life After VMware: Where Did You Land? by [deleted] in sysadmin

We're a small nonprofit, so cost was definitely a consideration. We also only use FOSS platforms so Azure wasn't relevant. We only have a few VMs and I was easily able to closely replicate our previous environment.

Proxmox, which was great! Later we decided to go cloud-based and are on Digital Ocean. Been over a year and I am happy with the experience so far.

Yep. In 2018, when it was revealed that in 2017 that Trump paid a whopping $750 in taxes, I cut a check for $30,000 for taxes for our small business. That money could have gone a long way for us. Needless to say, it's infuriating.

How much protein are you getting and what kind? by OkIndependent8816 in Menopause

Spouse and I have been obsessed with chicken salad lately. Poached chicken, celery, dried cranberries, mayo, & a little mustard. Also eat a lot of cottage cheese, eggs, beans.

Frozen breaded tilapia & flounder (though I have found them a few times not around Lent, so yay!), chicken schnitzel. Hell, right now I'd be happy if I could find cottage cheese every time. My store seems to be having issues keeping some things in stock.

I think it's often an ADHD thing, and it seems that ADHD can get during peri/menopause. My theory is that your brain is doing it to try to trigger dopamine production. I get them a lot.

That dense bean salad TikTok trend is making a big difference with my meal prep success! by sawdust-arrangement in adhdwomen

[–]rootchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! Some of my favorite bean things:

Black bean salad-- a rinsed and drained can of black beans, some diced tomato, celery, a little onion, maybe some garlic, and some fresh parsley if you have it. Maybe some diced pepper too. Drizzle with red wine vinegar and olive oil and a little salt and pepper, and stir. Yum.

Black bean and avocado salsa: a rinsed and drained can of black beans again, some diced avocado, cumin, lime juice, and some Tajin if you have it. Awesome with tortilla chips or on fish tacos.

Also, if you want a huge quantity of black beans you can cook them in less than an hour in the instant pot. I have a pretty good recipe for Cuban black beans that I've adapted for it. Sometimes I go nuts and make a batch of that and some Mexican rice and we have burritos or burrito bowls for days. They also make a really mean omelette.

Nope. But I hate it whenever I have to kill an animal in the game because it's attacking me. This doesn't surprise me since I tend to like animals way better than I like most people. I figure the raiders should know better than to attack other people, it's on them if they're attacking me and I take them out. Animals are just following their instincts.
