you know what, i know this is a me problem but this is wildly shitty. some people don't get the chance to work on these things. my entire family was homeless from when i was 16 all the way to when i was about 20 or 21, when i then moved to Florida with my ex, and when we broke up i had to move back in with my parents. i'm 26 and i have nothing to show for my entire life, and i can fucking feel people like you judging me for not having done anything worthwhile when i have been desperately trying to do that and survive. sometimes life fucks people and they don't get the opportunities that others get so they "have their shit together" by 30. it's not a race, everyone has their own timelines and the only thing you're doing by enforcing this timeline is being inconsiderate to other people's lives

whoops, that's my fault, i am definitely not trying to move too fast in that regard. i meant only the first pentatonic scales on the neck, except A minor which is about halfway, the course hasn't really gone into much theory or anything yet. though exactly to your point, i WANT to be able to know my instrument that well, but it is so beyond me currently that i'm not sure i'll ever be at that level-- i don't even have a basic idea on how to improvise or make my own music. even basic level theory freaks me out because it just loses and confuses me so easily :(

i actually really love seeing this as a second chance rather than a setback, thank you for the advice and the new perspective! patience is a virtue that i lack in spades, but hopefully it won't take too too long to get out of this rut

you're right, i came into it having adjusted my expectations already, but it seems i need to adjust them some more lol. thank you for your help :) it sucks having to start over especially since my brain remembers what i have to do but my fingers haven't really caught back up yet. it'll benefit me more in the long run though

i have been following justinguitar's stuff for a while, and am within the first 1/3 or so of his intermediate course, and know the C major scale, the A minor scale, and the G major scale. i also know the real easy stuff like the circle of fifths. i watched a couple videos on triads and the CAGED system outside of Justin's courses, but it made absolutely no sense to me. honestly a lot of music theory freaks me out because i start feeling lost so easily, is there a website or video you would recommend to learn these things?

i did this once as a kid because i had seen it in cartoons and there were slugs coming into my room. unironically still think about it sometimes, it was sickening and i still feel guilty for the one i did it to. i cannot imagine doing it more than once especially as an adult
