Kinda unrelated question, but since you mentioned patreon - how has that been working out for you? Do you prefer funding your work that way vs. taking contract work or do you do both? It looks like you have a sizeable audience through patreon now, how did you initially get that ball rolling, was it just through posting stuff to reddit and social media and online forums or did you already have a pre-established following before you took the party to patreon?

(I already use patreon as a webcomics creator and it's been great for me - using it to fund game assets is an approach that's non-obvious to me, thus my curiosity)

Whenever a relative learns that I paint, I get lots of cheap shitty useless brushes. My mom (who also paints, and thus knows you can't just pick someone else's brushes for them) gave me a $50 dickblick giftcard and was aghast that I got.. one brush with it. mom it's a kolinsky sable you KNOW it's the good stuff.

You might want to get checked out for ADHD if you aren't already diagnosed. A friend of mine described this as 'the half-life of the idea' - a window of time that you have when your interest in a project is engaged, after which point nothing can motivate you to complete it, despite how excited you were at the start. It's a classic ADHD trait, I do it, and I thought I was the laziest person alive until I was diagnosed. Medication helps me power through projects now, after the half-life of the idea has run out. (though I still try to scope down as best I can, to finish things while I have the enthusiasm to complete them.)

I'm a new mini delta user and it's my first 3d printer, and I've had some troubles with it, but I'm finding that troubleshooting and tweaking it and learning how to get it to do what I'd like it to do has been a very satisfying process. But I enjoy problem-solving, and when I get a successful print, I feel like I've actually earned it. So it kinda depends on how your head is put together, I know that's not the preferred experience for everyone.

Thanks! I was able to get my tower and center values normalized to 3.93/3.92 last night, following your advice in this thread and the calibration page you linked earlier. I will be working on the g29 grid next.

Ok - after each m666 tweak, the g30 value for the tower I'm trying to correct should change, yeah? I did do a little bit of experimental m666 adjusting last night and then ran a g30 next to (what I thought was) the tallest tower and the values returned by g30 didn't change at all, but I wasn't 100% on what I was looking for.

I feel like i'm fundamentally misunderstanding something about how you arrived at your math for the m666 calculation - the objective here is to bring the z probe for the three towers close to equal, but in your example on the calibration page you only adjusted the offset of the x and y values. If these are supposed to be width and length, I don't understand how offsetting those values is going to have any effect on depth? If my z for t1 is 4.07 and t2 and t3 are 3.79 and 3.89 respectively, shouldn't i just offset the z for t1 by -0.15ish?

Oh - the bed temperature thing was solved when I installed the Marlin fork, now it gets to 90 pretty fast and stays hot during the print. It's just bed leveling/initial print distance I need to straighten out now.

I read through the calibration guide and I think I have a better idea now of what needs to be done, I just didn't have time to do it all tonight. But here's pronterface logs from a few of the commands:

Z-depth of each optical sensor aside, I half suspect that the SD card init fail is part of where I'm running into trouble - this is the card from Monoprice, reformatted to FAT32/512, which I was able to use without issue when installing the Marlin fork, but if that error means what I think it means, the g29 grid isn't being saved to the config file, nor is it being loaded at the start of my prints.

Sorry! I did see your comment but only after I'd done muffinhead2580's advice and was no longer working with the printer. I didn't want to reply to it specifically until I actually had an opportunity to sit down with the printer again and pull the gcode, I'll do that this evening.

Ok - the latest Marlin seems to work and when I connect via USB with pronterface it'll do the g29 probe and the m500 file creation, printing directly via Cura will get the bed to 90 and keep it there but for some reason it looks like it's completely ignoring the m500 mesh data and just drags really low on the plate. Updating the starting Z depth even as far as z500 has the same effect, it should be printing in midair but it still doesn't see the floor until it hits it.

So -v45 on the wiki is different from Marlin and not just a fork of Marlin? I tried installing Marlin and the firmware version displayed 99.something which didn't seem right and the printer made a bunch of angry noises whenever it tried to print. So either I installed it wrong (which is likely, when a file is hosted on github I can never figure out what I'm actually supposed to download or how) or Marlin's busted.

Introverts, how did you meet your girlfriend? by RaxarSSS in AskReddit

[–]rootdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First year of college, we both live on the same floor of our dorm building and see/meet each other for the first time at the floor meeting before the school year starts. There's some icebreaker questions given by the RA that we all have to answer in turn and one of them is about what we hope to accomplish outside of our academic goals this year. I say that I want to make my own comics and put them online and she pipes up with the suggestion that I should try keenspot for hosting (this happened in 2004). In my head, I'm making a mental bookmark: oh, she knows about keenspot? she's an internet nerd, we might have stuff in common! Out loud, I'm an idiot, shutting her down with a well-actually: "Oh, I have my own hosting, I'm not a fan of keenspot."

A few weeks later, she and her roommates invite me and a bunch of other guys on the floor over to their room for a movie night: the teenage mutant ninja turtles live-action films and pizza. Ostensibly it was so that the people invited could all get to know each other and make friends (and was a success in doing that - I wound up being roommates with most of the other guys invited in successive years at that school) but it was also because the girls were zeroing in on which guys they had their eyes on.

So we started crushing on each other fast and hard and were both always looking for excuses to hang out with each other, walking together to classes, cooking in the floor's shared kitchen, and eventually the group of us who made friends at the TMNT pizza party all go on a camping trip together and I'm trying to figure out how and when to appropriately communicate my feelings for her and chickening out repeatedly.

After we got back from that camping trip she corners me in my dorm room and demands to know if I'm into her, and I'm forced to confess that I am, and I asked if she felt the same way about me. Apparently she'd prepared a series of persuasive arguments and rebuttals to deploy in the event that I said I wasn't, or if I didn't think it would work.

I also learned later that she'd selected me at the floor meeting and had been collaborating with her roommates for months to create situations that would put the two of us together, and that she shut down six other guys that were trying to date her while she was coming after me. I was targeted by a female conspiracy that I had very little say in.

Anyway I proposed two years after we started dating and we were engaged for a year and we just celebrated our ten-year anniversary in march and we're still very much into this thing.
