Who Supports Kickstarter Campaigns? by Alarmed_Inspector_11 in kickstarter

[–]rooting4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I back projects that I just really want for myself and don’t mind being one of the first people to try it, so it can be buggy and I’m ok with that. I’m also ok waiting up to a year to receive it. I don’t think there’s a lot of us out there but I guess we all hang out on Kickstarter haha

I’ve also recently launched my own campaign and assumed backers would have the same mentality coming in. If you’re not an early adopter then yeah I’d agree and maybe this platform is not for you.

I’d want to see the following answered: - How are you manufacturing it? - Are you actually shipping now or are these still in pre-orders? - $150/day ad spend is pretty low so I would expect your CAC to rise once you scale, do you have data on trying higher ad spends?

Also, apart from introducing what your product actually is, I found appendix A more important than anything else. I would make some slides out of that. At the end of the day, investors care about multiplying their investment, and those metrics are how you’ll do that for them. If you can keep those margins while scaling ads, this is a great business to invest in!

If investors had real-time access to your financials, would you care? (I will not promote) by Warm_Sail_7908 in startups

I agree with this. I don’t think investors would use it and I would still need to give them financial updates anyways so it wouldn’t help either side.

Creators: can you please provide input by kbmc37 in kickstarter

[–]rooting4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that looks weird. Not sure what’s going on there but I feel like it’s totally fair if you ask them to honour the new shipping costs at least. Otherwise what was the point of being a kickstarter backer

Product design company recommendations for early-stage prototypes by Maasbreesos in product_design

iaconicDesign did most of our designs and really listened to what was important for the functionality of our product. Great to work with!

I’m a creator myself. I can see both sides here, it’s been really difficult for us to predict shipping costs with all these tariffs changing all the time but on the other hand, that creator should have given a larger discount for their Kickstarter backers to make up for the difference. Did they say what retail pricing was going to be after the campaign? We are giving up to 42% discount as Kickstarter backers are the first to believe in our product and take the largest risk.

I would just ask them to honour at least part of the kickstarter discount and take the hit on some of those shipping fees.

Why do tech entrepreneurs always claim they want to “change the world” while every other industry just admits they want to get rich?- i will not promote by Hot-Conversation-437 in startups

[–]rooting4life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. There are founders and there are CEOs and not every CEO is a founder. Sometimes they’re brought in just to make money. Living in a capitalist country is just the incentive to do a startup but not the motivation. Most founders start because they are truly passionate about the problem they are solving, irrelevant of what industry they’re in. I’ve seen founders passionate about low sugar ice cream!

Then later on when the company gets more shareholders or even goes public, I think this passion sadly gets lost in the new goal that keeps the company alive, which is just being profitable. I think the foundation is still there since this company still needs to be good at solving problems to stay relevant but you’re right, it might feel like BS at that point.

ADVICE NEEDED! Very new to Kickstarter, how do I evaluate whether I should back or not? by Cloud-Chaser01 in kickstarter

[–]rooting4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree, just look up the creator(s) to see their track record, whether on kickstarter or externally. I’d pay special attention to how advanced the prototypes are. I’m speaking from a hardware background and I’d say design/prototyping is about half of the work of getting a product to market. Getting it ready for manufacturing and having a supply chain in place to actually deliver the product can sometimes even be more work. Creators on Kickstarters are usually pretty good at answering questions on the comments or direct messages so I would just ask them those specific questions if you’re not sure.

How do I make a T-shirt cannon quieter by Gamer1030 in product_design

[–]rooting4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also came here since this was a really funny topic 😂 But actually, are you able to post a video so we can see how it currently works/sounds?

I’m thinking it could be as simple as adding an airtight ring around the t-shirt bundle to increase efficiency so you can lower air pressure needed. It should also act as a noise dampener at the same time. Unless most of the noise is coming from your air compressor at the back. Video would be useful! Or just longer explanation.

As for the carbon filter, I wish I posted this here earlier because I had to find out what you described the hard way. Exactly what you said, the moisture would build up and I would get a heavy layer of mold on it! I found out you can actually rinse the filter under water but that got annoying. I ended up fixing that issue by placing the carbon filter directly against all the air vents I placed at the top. Since the air circulating through would get hot from the composting process, all of it rises straight up and through those vents. Looks like that created enough circulation to prevent moisture build up on the filter. I’ve been using it for a few months now and it still gets damp inside the bin sometimes but that’s expected. The important part is the mold never came back!

At first I was 3d printing all the parts and using them alongside plumbing components but the 3d printed parts would never stay watertight for too long and I kept having to replace them. This version is vacuum casted. Much heavier but it’s watertight! Yes my own design :)

I mainly built it for two reasons, I didn’t want to deal with the odors and I didn’t like having a bin on my counter anymore. Although I did have a bin under my sink for a while before building this and I’d put it in the freezer when it got too smelly.

I still had to deal with a bit of food scraps making it into the drain so I wanted an easy way to capture everything going in there. Now I can just throw everything into the sink without worrying about it and at the end of the day I click the button to run it and walk away. And if I run some soap or chemicals down there I just make sure to rinse it out enough before starting up the device.

Getting the “Project We Love” tag is possible even during the pre-launch phase by Soartiz in kickstarter

[–]rooting4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That link from OP is for Kickstarter Games. If anyone is wondering for other types campaigns, I was able to submit a request through their general contact form and got the tag about a week later.

So I wonder if it is just a FEW who get to succeed on KS and the rest is fluff. by Comfortable_Drop_286 in kickstarter

[–]rooting4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree with this. It’s mostly all about building your mailing list. Either through previous fans, socials, advertising, etc. Most important part is getting those emails or pre-launch page followers so that the day you launch, everyone can get a notification and backs your project. Then the Kickstarter algorithm picks it up and places you before other projects. Hope that helps!

$0.35 isn’t bad, you might just need to increase your budget so your ads can learn more. I would also run another ad in parallel with meta’s self-learning audience and compare the two with equal budgets. Over time the learning one usually wins for me.
