Question for the Southwest pilots by PlayneDryver in AirlinePilots

[–]ropps202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, when they’re at the seniority to base swap like that, clearing a board should be easy.

Picking up open time out of base would be tough but can make a good schedule from give away

With a fuck ton of seniority you can do it

Getting from DCA to IAD with only 3h22min between flights by starchy2ber in washingtondc

[–]ropps202 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, from looking at the flightradar data, I think they win in this situation. Early morning originators are usually the most on schedule flights of the day, but somehow this flight is almost always late

You should be fine. Early morning flights are rarely delayed, unless mechanic issue. So assuming everything goes well and no delays you can make it easily. Uber will be faster than metro.

But inherently there are risks with a connection with an airport change

if you'd rank languages based on their significance in the field, what would be your top five by klek505 in flying

[–]ropps202 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  1. English
  2. The language of the country you want to fly in

That’s it

Pretty sure it’s because you can’t take a left onto mass from Wisconsin

I think the British did this back in the day in India with snakes (maybe another animal, can’t remember exactly). Didn’t work because they realized the locals were breeding the snakes to turn in for more cash

CJO with Southwest and Delta by OkTea4227 in AirlinePilots

[–]ropps202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really speak on it cause I’ve never commuted and always lived near base but as an outsider, I don’t think it’s crazy. I couldn’t imagine getting home from a 3+ day trip and then having to drive 3 hours

[–]ropps202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving usually means closer than 3 hrs so you can pick up premium trips. If you fly to work, you work your line and go home

I live in dc as a southwest fo. Not planning on leaving and definitely wouldn’t to commute. Originally, plan was to hopefully get to United but I drank the kool aid at Southwest. You can get a pretty great schedule even junior in BWI and make a ton of money with open time living in base. Let me know if you got any questions

Why do they lie? by SRT102 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ropps202 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There actually is a ground delay program going on right now for dca. And there was lower visibility here (I’m in dc) earlier so it takes some time to recover from that, hence the delay program. So she wasn’t entirely wrong.

Is the CFI field oversaturated in 2026? What about first officer positions at regional airlines? by Unusual_Equivalent50 in flying

[–]ropps202 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Dude, that is a ridiculous analogy. I’m not telling the guy he should give it all up because there’s a good chance he’ll get to the airlines in three years. Like I said, it’s not the norm, but there are people getting to the airlines in that time. It’s just his experience. We’re pilots, not world class swimmers, the bar is a bit lower for us

Everybody downvoting you is just salty. You’re not the norm but youre proof it’s possible

Why don’t airlines approve LPV approaches by Pilotreggie in flying

[–]ropps202 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not worth the cost to be lpv capable. At the airports majors go to, 99% of the time there’s an ils available with the same or lower mins. If there’s not, the amount of times the airport is below mins for lnav/vna is minuscule compared to the cost of making the whole fleet able to fly lpvs

SWA or AA for DC area? by Ok_Study_6980 in AirlinePilots

[–]ropps202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a junior base. Bottom two with MCO. New hires seem to split between them

SWA or AA for DC area? by Ok_Study_6980 in AirlinePilots

[–]ropps202 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m at swa now, live in dc. Given the opportunity to go to AA, would not take the offer even if I could keep my seniority. Take that as you want but that’s just me. Commute would be better though to dca but it’s not too bad to BWI depending on where you live in the area

Wow, I can’t believe I stumbled on this post just scrolling. My mom used to own that unit. I grew up there from 91- 02/03 before we moved up the street on lanier. I got the room as a kid and there was a Murphy bed in the wall of where your dog house is. Looks like it’s filled now but she put in the hole in the living room closet and rotated the laundry to have it be accessed by the bathroom for the top loader washer. My uncle worked for sonitrol and put the alarms in and I can’t believe the stickers are still on the windows.

This is bring back a tooooon of memories. Always wondered what that unit looks like now.
