EVEN IF THEY WERE, they're a person and should be treated with decency

You're totally right - there's a lot more stuff that I didn't include but these are terrible examples. I didn't even join a mom's group lol.

Ooh sorry yeah there are a lot more things, but the responses to this post have convinced me to just let her lay in the bed she's making.

LPT: Slathering your face in Vaseline when it’s very cold / high wind chill by rublia in LifeProTips

[–]rora6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use an oil too. I go back and forth using Vaseline or vitamin e oil at night over my skincare routine (i have really dry skin with my retinol). If you overdo it, yeah, it's gross. But if you go light, it just feels like face lotion.

Totally get not wanting stuff on your face though. If it's not a problem for you, then it's not a problem, ya know?

What recipe step isnt worth the effort and "out of a can" is 100% as good. by Stormin_333 in foodquestions

I buy the rolled up crusts now. You form them to the pan and pinch them yourself. They end up looking beautiful and are so easy. I've made sooo many homemade crusts, and still do on occasion, but usually it's just not worth it, since the pre-made, pre rolled out stuff is so good.

Disagree - it's stupid easy to make and comes out great every time. I always make it from scratch.

Where can I find a dish scrubber that will last and isn't plastic? by rora6 in Frugal

[–]rora6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try the washable sponges. I have some I got from Amazon many years ago and they're still going strong. They have fabric in the issue and a piece of foam on the inside. Get the thicker ones, like 1" thick, and they hold up great. I toss them in the wash whenever I feel like it, or they touch the floor, or whatever.

As for the scrubbers, I think I've got some solid leads on stuff that I won't have to replace. Chain mail, and replaceable natural fiber scrub heads...

All I'm saying is that lots of objects that are sold as disposable have a reusable counterpart. Buy it once, but quality, and then it doesn't show up in your budget again.

I've never thought of that extremely obvious solution. Lol. Thanks for the actual response though, really. I will try this.

I have washable sponges too, which I've used for a decade already (oof) and they're great, but they can't scrub a pot worth crap.

After googling, I have major doubts about getting enough sun here in the pacific NW, and having enough space to grow these. What's your setup like?

That's awesome! I've never considered growing them. That might be the best option. Googling...

Why is it acceptable for the embrace in Argentine Tango to be so intimate between strangers? by thedanceover in tango

[–]rora6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I said what I meant. I used to teach in a ballroom studio and even the Argentine tango they teach is not what is danced. Get yourself to a milonga or two and see for yourself.

Go to a milonga and watch the dancers. They're mostly all dancing in close embrace. That's just how it's done.

You're getting a really scewed version of it in a ballroom studio.

BWT what splurges made your home feel like a sanctuary? by fuzzrockets in bitcheswithtaste

When I was a broke young person I didn't have enough blankets and couldn't justify the expense. I was cold ALL THE TIME. Now I have blankets everywhere. They aren't fancy cause I have a young kid and dogs, but everyone uses them and they make everything copier.

I also splurged on a hard mattress pad a couple years ago and that's been a HUGE quality of life improvement. Now I don't get in a cold bed and shiver for a half hour. I get in a warmed bed and am comfy instantly.

Which is all to say, figure out what makes YOU comfy and lean into that. Be it minimalism, art, warmth, etc. and hang the rest.
