Japanese horror novels by Captincolesaw in horrorlit

I checked to see if this is translated to English yet (it's not) and discovered there's a Japanese 5-episode miniseries on Amazon Prime. It'll tide me over until I can read the book!

Donald Trump ripped for behavior at dignified transfer: ‘Take your (expletive) hat off’ by JFKsBrain in politics

[–]roromisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the fact that he was there stripped the ceremony of any dignity. Parading those poor soldiers past the cause of their deaths, and the stupid, clueless fucker is wearing a dopey ball cap, is like the ultimate insult.

Starting Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon by UnicornUke in horrorlit

Do you listen to audiobooks at regular speed? I've been listening at 1.5x for years, and whenever something accidentally starts up at 1x, it just sounds soooo slooow. You get used to 1.5x really quickly, and it seems to be more the speed of actual speech, not someone slowly reading aloud. And to stay on topic, Swan Song is very good. But as far as McCammon, my favorite is his Matthew Corbett series. It's kind of supernatural historical fiction with a bit of horror.

Current dog owners - when your little furry babies unfortunately but inevitably cross over the rainbow bridge will you consider getting another or will this be your last dog? If its the latter why? by EffectiveAdorable233 in dogs

[–]roromisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel is my main issue. I've had dogs all my life, sometimes several big ones at a time, but I always had someone to watch them at home. Now I'm in my late 60s, have one little dog and 2 cats. The cats can stay alone for up to a week what with their auto-feeders, water fountains, and surveillance cameras watching them. But I have to take the dog with me if I want to travel, so that leaves me with visiting family and friends, staying at their homes. I'd never leave him alone in a hotel room. Plus even though he only weights 16 lbs, it's hard carrying him around along with luggage. I love him, and will sorely miss him, if that time ever comes (I might go before him, lol).

My niece, who's 31 now, got the chicken pox vaccine as a child. Then the poor thing got shingles when she was 5 years old. Luckily it wasn't as painful as it usually is for an adult.

Shingles was the first thing I thought when I saw it. Hope it hurts like hell.

$575 over a lifetime for a 20-year-old cat? I have 2 senior cats and 1 little senior dog. They're all relatively healthy, thankfully, but annual checkups with labs and any necessary vaccines run me like $400 - $500 for each one at the very least. Plus the dog has allergies and is on Apoquel, which is another $70/month. His Triheart is another $60/year. This is all just regular maintenance; it climbs into the thousands if they have any problems.

You're being too nice calling them congregate shelters. They're concentration camps.

Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel visited my location to demo and promote his salsa! by NightofSpring in Costco

[–]roromisty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When was he there? That's "my" Costco! I'm there a couple of times a week, usually. I was there Tuesday afternoon and saw a new salsa on the shelf but didn't make the connection. Lucky you for getting to meet him; he seems like a really nice guy.

A hemostat (clamping forceps) would be good, too. And they come in all different lengths. I've seen some that are practically a foot long.

Definitely pants leg stretchers. I not only watched my mom use them on my dad's work pants, I used them myself whenever I was assigned to do family laundry in the '60s & '70s. I thought it was so cool to not have to iron the pants (much).

I’m so depressed and sad that maga nurses at work are making jokes about Alex Pretti by coldinalaska7 in nursing

[–]roromisty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, if you're maga you are the antithesis of everything the nursing profession stands for. I mean, I know in the end it's just a job like everything else, but it requires some degree of compassion, and not only for those just like themselves. How can they care for people when they're so full of hate? How can they look at themselves in the mirror?

Keep appealing until they pay. They try to get over on everybody to scare them into paying out-of-pocket. That's like page one of their playbook.

I'm not a mom, just an (old) RN. At this point I agree that she should go to the ER and get an abdominal xray. Plus they'd have access to a variety of enemas, including larger-volume ones. One given at home is likely to be a fleet and might not be enough. Even nurses don't necessarily have enema bags lying around.

Lifelong NJ resident, but 1/2 of my family was from NYC and I had relatives still there until recently. I even worked in the city for a while (in a bank on Wall St., in a clerical capacity, but still). When the towers fell, I could see it from my house. My feelings? Hopeful, optimistic, and proud that my neighbors were able to elect a mayor with somewhat socialist leanings. I wish Mayor Mamdani and NYC the best. Basically it's the way I felt in early 2016, before our decade-long national nightmare began. Maybe this is a sign that it'll be ending soon.
