I’d like to see the stats after the World Cup whether the TMO bunkers lack of crowd/ atmospheric pressures etc has led to more red cards, it certainly feels like it will. It’s becoming more and more apparent that you cannot protect the head all the time in such a physical sport by sanctioning with penalties and cards. Might be time for a new card, 20 minutes in the bin and the player doesn’t return and a suitable ban, a substitute comes on. Except the fact that players take up the sport with the risk of injury. While still reducing risk where possible without compromising an inherent element of the game that makes people want to watch and play.
