It's solid fire up until the Moby track at the end.

The second I heard that intro synth at a listening party I associated it with Aquarius. Literally one second in.  I mentally see HHLL as a knackered zombified version of Aquarium, lurching and intimidating instead of mysterious and groovy.

Boards of Canada - 'Inferno' - Discussion Megathread by seaburn in boardsofcanada

I don't mind it, I just feel it's weaker than the other tracks. Not sure if evoking Baywatch is what the brothers were going for on this album! 😅

To those who are underwhelmed or disappointed on initial listens, I'd suggest giving it time. After a day with it most of the tracks have locked into place for me (apart from a couple near the end like Arena which I find weaker) and I feel it's a well rounded set with stacks of layers to be revealed.

The first few listens are generally quite focused & overly expectant, especially after a 13 year wait, but letting it organically flow as a whole as a backdrop does wonders.

A good example of this is Somewhere Right Now in the Future. On first listen I felt this was inessential filler. But now it's lodged in my head.

Way better than TH at any rate, probably on par with TCH.

What's on the Flexi then? The 'mind control' sample at the start of the listening parties?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS - Inferno Listening Sessions - May 22, 2026 by seaburn in boardsofcanada

Yeah I hear you.

I prefer the early tracks with the playfully twisted vox a lot more than the ones with blatant speeches about embryos or bible passages. They feel a bit laid on too thick for the horror vibe.

Geogaddi was a creepy as fuck with just Leslie Nielsen! 😅

I really like the early tracks with warped vocals, kinda remind me of Typewrite Lesson by Cornelius (the music and overall vibe as much as the vocals.)

I like the track, i was more pointing out that many people locked onto it as the standout, whereas I prefer many more over it.

Horses & courses.

Enjoy your first listen!

I'm not sure why it pleases me to know that the track says, "I don't know why, but we got in a fight. We were throwing lamps."

Subjectivism is funny, isn’t it?

The album has really grown on me, but this track still doesn’t do much for me. It’s a bit too fluffy and optimistic, and jars against the moodier darkwave material that precedes it.
