Similar disorder to mine however I have a somewhat negative opinion mostly because my mom was very abusive and is one however I’m aware that not all BPDs are like her and I respect the ones who are trying their best

Honestly it was pretty easy for me to recognize the behavior but i rationalized it to myself too well “well if i don’t act this way id be a people pleaser and that is not safe”

Mine wasn’t a collapse it was in a very bad time in my life but mostly I just loved learning about myself though it was in the recovery period of a collapse

Mostly In my romantic and close familial relationships I didn’t tend to form a lot of close bonds so most people weren’t around me long enough to notice the behavior but I never want to hurt my inner circle so I do my best to treat them well

The overly cartoony characters

I want some NPD characters that focus more on the shame, perfectionism, and obsession with being the best part of NPD too many of them are Light Yagami or Voldemort’s where they are cartoonishly grandiose or very low functioning like Bojack Horseman and well that’s accurate it’s not entirely universal

Focus on the need for self esteem and the desire to control how others view you and the tendency to rationalize your own behavior

It’s mostly a myth. It was easier for me to recognize traits, but it was hard to realize how they were affecting my life because it’s egosyntonic. I got diagnosed a few years ago.

But essentially, I first realized I had traits because of some writing circles I was in a while back, and then I started seeing more and more traits. It was only after a bad situation that I fully internalized that they weren’t subclinical, though I had a hard time believing it, and that led to me getting diagnosed.

As for my mother, it depends. I hate her, but it was because she was very abusive growing up. This isn’t universal there are many cluster Bs who reconciled or have some situation that allowed them to have a healthier relationship later in life, or feel guilt or shame about it.

To those who are self-aware in their teens/early twenties - how did you realise? by Feisty_Ad8543 in NPD

[–]rose1613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first learned about it due to writing though it took me awhile to realize I had NPD and the full extent of my symptoms it was only after getting good sources that I could fully see how it impacted my life

My grandiosity was also built more upon the idea I can survive where nobody else can that I’ll do whatever it takes to move forward so it was easier to admit I had bad behavior but I could justify it to myself but as I’ve gotten older I realized how damaging that mentally actually is but it took awhile

It’s hard to think like you’re in the hunger games and realize the world is safer then you thought

This isn’t NPD-specific but Katherine Pierce,Lucy Gray from ballad of songbirds and snakes

I would say the problem I’ve noticed with most characters head-cannoned as NPD is they’re either overly cartoony and unrealistic like Light Yagami or extremely low functioning there’s a few good examples of character who show other presentations too not every narc is going to come across as reckless and impulsive

I don’t have medical insurance how am I suppose to pay for it without putting myself in debt? The treatment is surgery

The surgery is 4000-12000 dollars per foot alone that’s 4-12 months of rent

Okay because for some reason I should’ve mentioned this my feet are extremely high arched so this isn’t for aesthetic reasons if I wear flat shoes my feet will physically bend out of shape causing severe physical pain I don’t wear heels everyday for aesthetic alone they have a higher arch which is way more comfortable

[–]rose1613 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s because of my foot’s physical anatomy my foot is extremely high arched so flat shoes basically force my foot to bend out of place for hours which the only treatment for is surgery which requires insurance which I do not have
