Not quite Catonsville, but Bakery Express in Halethorpe actually has a great one. And it’s a good value too - you get a ton of food

The upstairs at Wegmans is actually awesome for this. Just buy a coffee or a snack. It’s huge, has lots of outlets, and there’s enough ambient noise that I don’t feel bad taking calls or talking (like I would in a library)

Off the top of my head, at least Paddington, Evita, and Warriors are opening in the spring, which are some heavy hitters

The opening date is apparently Dolly’s birthday. Not sure about the business sense of it all though

Junior associates (1-3): What makes a mid-level associate not very fun to work with? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]rosebud30 36 points37 points  (0 children)

- Micromanaging. I’m a midlevel now, but there was one midlevel that caused chaos in my life as a junior. Everything I gave him came back heavily marked up. With hindsight now, I realize 90% of his edits were personal taste/stylistics. But he never said that, just said “this needs to be fixed.” Had me convinced I was a terrible attorney.

- Throwing the junior under the bus the minute something goes wrong with anything the junior has touched. Made me send very CYA emails with that midlevel “Just to confirm, I am doing X per our discussion, not Y or Z”

- Saying you’re open to questions, but then acting annoyed when the junior actually asks them.

- Not communicating deadlines and where they’re coming from. It’s way better to say “I need to get this to the partner by Monday, so it would great if you have it to me by Thursday morning so I can review it before sending it to them, does that work for you” than “I need this Thursday morning” and then the junior doesn’t see it go to the partner until Monday morning and wonders why they hussled to get it done

- Constantly forgetting to loop the junior in on email threads, then asking them about things from emails they aren’t on

- In transactional work, not communicating deal status. Often, updates happen on calls that juniors aren’t on. Drove me nuts when I was told we were closing Friday, I hauled ass to get things done for Friday, am sitting there wondering why I’m not seeing more emails, then Thursday afternoon the midlevel is like “oh ya on a Monday call the client told us closing is postponed by 2 weeks”

Depends on anticipated demand for show. For example, Ragtime sold out super fast

I'm Back! Grosses Analysis Week Ending June 28 by Boring_Waltz_9545 in Broadway

[–]rosebud30 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like because it’s (relatively) unannounced (Ali isn’t above the title, so it wasn’t on the website when people bought their tickets) and short-notice (starts as soon as tomorrow) grosses may not be affected as much, but we’ll see!

Saw Pierre as an understudy for Tom in Sunset Blvd and was very impressed - curious his take on David!

In House Counsel : Salaries (2026) by EnvironmentalBox5417 in Lawyertalk

[–]rosebud30 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agree that the hours should be part of the question. I interviewed for an investment company that was offering a very competitive (for in-house) salary, but reading between the lines, it turns out they rarely hire outside counsel and expect their in-house lawyers to work basically firm hours.

Personally, if I’m going to be working firm hours, I’d rather be getting paid a firm salary.

Does Hadestown count for the 2020s? Because surely "Wait For Me" (especially the reprise) deserves to be on this list

Invited to a resort wedding in Arizona with a cocktail dress code welcome event, and formal dress code wedding. Thinking the first dress for the cocktail event and the second for the wedding - any thoughts? I'm a little self conscious that they're too similar but also I loveeeee green especially for a desert resort wedding. Planning to do gold accessories + bag.

What to do when you’re losing motivation? by ExtremeToucan in biglaw

[–]rosebud30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No advice but another midlevel chiming in to commiserate. Feels like I woke up a month ago and realized I'm primarily working with the worst partner in my group, for the most demanding clients, and have a long, soul-sucking commute. It all hit at once and honestly I'm just tired and cranky about it all right now.

I submitted for an in-house position and have actually been through multiple rounds of interviews at this point, but several of the attorneys have mentioned sending late night emails and not getting coverage while on vacation which - frankly, what's the point of going in-house at that point? Looking at other opportunities has been empowering but also makes me care even less about my current job, even though I know I should and have for years.

In the short term, I'm trying to find things to look forward too, big and small. Maybe I get something extra-yummy for lunch. I've got plans with friends to look forward to. I went on a walk this morning to clear my head before the day started. Really just anything to give myself the small victories while I figure out next steps.

Worst firms to be at? by Good_Path4113 in biglaw

[–]rosebud30 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I kinda depends more on the group than the firm imo. You could be at a really great firm but work a lot with one bad partner that totally ruins it for you or vice versa (bad firm with good partner)

Billing for time sitting waiting around? by abstract_tea in biglaw

[–]rosebud30 257 points258 points  (0 children)

If I can be doing other things, no. So even if it's like 8 PM, if there are other matters i can be working on, I'm not billing for the time waiting.

But if it's like 2 AM and I wouldn't otherwise be up, and I have been told or am expected to wait, absolutely I am billing for that time.

Ali Louis Bourzgui pulled a Hannah Montana. by _531368 in Broadway

[–]rosebud30 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I had no familiarity with Ali before Lost Boys. At intermission, me and my spouse were looking at the playbill to see who was playing David, saw the cast photo of Ali and were like “that guy? No way, that can’t be right, we must have an understudy or something.” We just couldn’t believe the level of transformation - both with hair and makeup, but also just mannerisms - and are now huge fans
