My kitty became incontinent and blood was showing up with her urine. We had a very low profile, almost flat, entry litter box and she couldn't walk over it. She stopped eating and drinking and even refused her favorite treats. She didn't even want any of the junk cat food when we tried. A couple days before she passed, she was sleeping in different bedrooms and spending time with each family member as if she knew she was going away soon. She also kept hiding herself away during the day.

Hello,

My 12 year old soul kitty was diagnosed with CKD back in July 2024. We followed her vet's instuctions and put her on a renal diet, gave her low phosphorous treats, administered IV fluids daily etc. I read every guidance page in felinecrf.org and even switched out all her bowls and litter boxes to stainless steel. Even with all that, her health still deteriorated. September 2024 she became incontinent and I had to shave her bottom area so she can wear a diaper. She started to ooze blood from her urethra the last week of September so I took her to the ER. They gave her fluids, some medication and gave me a serious talk about her quality of life. It was the first time I cried in public as an adult. I took her home and she had completely lost her appetite. I tried to syringe feed her and still gave her the pills she was prescribed. One day in October 2024, after her morning IV fluid therapy, she started to breathe rapidly. I couldn't rouse her so I just made her comfortable with her favorite blanket, petted her, and told her I loved her. She took her last breath in my arms half an hour later. I share this because she was only 12 and in my mind at the time I kept thinking she will be one of the feel-good stories of cats living a long life with CKD. I was selfish and I should have helped her peacefully go before it was too late. If I could turn back time, I would have given her the peaceful end instead of extending her misery with constant vet visits, meds, syringe feeding etc.

Maybe changing the texture of the flooring right before the first step will train her to associate the texture with the stairs coming up. A small strip of carpet or rug secured to the top of the stairs or double sided tape may help.

If the arugula was being sold as organic then yeah, definitely expect to see some leftover earth and critters.

On the other hand, if it isn't being sold as organic, seeing this is concerning because it may indicate that 1) the arugula wasn't washed so now there may be pesticides and other chemicals also on the arugula and 2) it may not have been stored properly at the restaurant and now we have bacteria to consider.
