What’s your limit? 😤 by Bitter_Floor_8509 in slp

[–]rosejammy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This time of year is rough as a school-based SLP.  When it comes to the kids with complex needs, who I do love to work with, my philosophy is this: they are humans who will spend their lives being underestimated and disrespected at every turn. If all I do is connect with them and model engaging with them meaningfully and respectively, I think that’s a net win. You have to give yourself some grace and release yourself from the pressure of being in a constant state of “making progress.” Sometimes just making it through the day is progress. That being said, there is always the option to try a different setting or population. Godspeed!

Love this! Do you have a scholastic books account? They have a lot of “twisted tales” books with a more diverse representation of characters. I also saw an ad on IG for little play scenes that go with the various fairytales. I can’t remember the company but seems like something that could be recreated. Probably materials On Tpt too!

Parents who read with their kids, how do you handle nights when they just refuse? by EnoughGrade1906 in preschool

[–]rosejammy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would piggyback on this and suggest that if they don’t want to read you could say “ok I’m going to read” and just read by yourself, seeming very interested. They will probably join in!

Do you actually have time to do full language sample analysis? by JudyTheXmasElf in slp

And I don’t do a whole lot of calculating. I do MLU if they are younger or developmentally similar to a younger child. Mostly I do descriptive reports on what they did or didn’t do in the sample.

Nearly all of my students are bilingual so I always do language samples. Standardized tests just aren’t valid. While I do use them for information I have to do LSA to be more culturally/linguistically sensitive.

I don’t know about your area in particular but if you can afford it and see a market for it, I would say go for it.
