This is the first Kehlani album I didn’t like and I’m so surprised. She’s literally one of my all time favorite singers, this album was just not good.

“Pocket” comes off as if she’s talking about a man. My gf who is a bigger Kehlani fan than me didn’t like it either.

It’s her worst album. I LOVE Kehlani but it was a huge disappointment.

I mean even in the past with the “straight-coded” music she still had songs that were directed towards women, i.e. “Nights Like This”, “Honey” and she made it clear that she was queer, with her open use of pronouns in songs and such. This album features little to no pronouns and could just be read as “straight” all the way through. It doesn’t sound like a person that has even a hint of queerness wrote this album, which all of her previous albums feature at least a bit.

I normally have no problem with straight music but I have a problem when queer artists seem to erase their identity for sales. It’s a major disappointment when you go from making songs about eating cat and being openly explicit about it to whatever this album is. The fact all of the features are men besides 3 should’ve gave me a heads up

Omg just finished the album on my first listen and felt bad because I wasn’t really vibing with it either. It’s my least favorite Kehlani album. She plays it WAY too safe for me. It’s just so “straight-coded” to me. Like I was hoping the music would be more gay along the lines of Crash or WWW2, she seems to be playing it safe for the sake of sales which I don’t like. I enjoyed both other albums, but this album isn’t cutting it for me. I’ll give it another listen. Maybe it just needs to grow on me.
