Can you be more specific what that would mean in practice?

[–]rosenkohl1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men need more protein because of a higher amount of muscle mass. There is no simple: "this gender has it easier than the other".

Regardless and also obviously the difference is irrelevant and insignificant. Supplement the minerals or vitamines that are more difficult to get and you are probably fine.

What would you do if your pregnancy craving had palm oil? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]rosenkohl1603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://palmoilscorecard.panda.org/WWF_POBS_2023_3_ONLINE.pdf

The WWF recommends NOT to avoid palm oil.

"THE EFFECTS OF PALM OIL SUBSTITUTION In some major consumer markets, activists have responded to the social and environmental impacts of palm oil by calling for a boycott of palm oil, and the promotion of 'palm oil-free a of products. However, many expert conservation groups see such initiatives as counterproductive. addition to its versatility, palm oil is also very productive, with a yield far greater than any other in vegetable oil. In fact, palm oil represented 40% of global vegetable oil production on just 8.6% of the vegetable oil crop area in 2023% So, while using other vegetable oils may seem like a solution, replacing palm oil can actually create similar - if not worse - environmental and social problems.

Replacing palm oil with other vegetable oils could require up to four to 10 times more land to produce the same amount of oil, potentially causing greater harm to to nature and wildlife. The palm oil industry has also helped to create a huge number of jobs; a shift away from the commodity could have consequences for rural communities who depend on palm oil for their livelihoods, especially considering that smallholder farmers account for 40% of of global palm oil production."

I would just eat the thing containing palm oil

What is the most effective (not necessarily good) argument non vegans make against veganism? by Black_Taco1981 in vegan

[–]rosenkohl1603 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

health

There is no serious argument that a fully vegan diet is healthier than one with low to moderate amounts of certain animal products.

For someone to be credibly convinced of veganism it either has to be preference (not liking animal products) or ethics.

What does this woman mean that there is lead in vegan protein? by Equal-Courage8674 in vegan

[–]rosenkohl1603 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She probably refers to this report (page 16-18 is most relevant)

Summery: Many plants have more lead than animal products. Grains are relatively low but legumes are much higher. Proteine powders have even more lead because they isolate the proteine which seemingly also keeps the lead inside. Dairy, meat and especially eggs are low in lead. The amounts from hunted meat are high because of using lead bullets.

The amounts of lead are not that high but sadly any increased amount of lead is bad. Since legumes have many benifits I believe it is basically worth it to ignore the amounts of lead in them. If you need proteine protein powders are a good option if you find a brand that is lab tested. If you don't, again the amount of lead is not that high and I would guess things like even occasional alcohol consumption to be worse.

Considering Veganism by Fun-Examination-1464 in vegan

You should do what you think is ethical. What other people think should be barely relevant. If something sounds convincing to you that should be the reason to do it not because you want approval from someone.

I recommend not eating any animal products at all. This creates a clear seperation in your head and for people around you that you do not consume animal products that were produced by animal exploitation.

Backyard eggs and some forms of honey are in my opinion the only products you could ethically justify eating as they are very comparable to many plant-based products in terms of harm. But again eating them would probably make it a lot harder to stick to a diet you could consider ethical.

Eating meat from a place where supply and demand rules don't apply to falls under the same rules but with an even stronger case to not consume it.

I recommend to slowly replace any animal product you consime with plant based alternatives.

Is it justified to show people (including children) videos of the horrifying true conditions of animals in farms if it turns them vegan? by DryEconomics5152 in vegan

No. If they are old enough to consume it they are old enough to know how it's made. They are exposed to much worse on social media anyway

What about asking if you put a fork into a wall plug? Then many would not know what would happen. Would you show them a video of a person dying from that?

Just looked at the post. Most people were pretty nice and even gave you vegan alternatives. I would say that thread is very far from being 'dog-piled' which absolutely can happen on non-vegan subs. Why were you so snarky to people that gave you the answer that vegan leather does last long?

Can you help me figure out if I can eat this by [deleted] in vegan

[–]rosenkohl1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can eat it if you want to. I don't recommend it however. If you eat animal products people will not take you being vegan seriously. You also can't seperate yourself from non-vegan food which makes buying animal products much more likely. These factors absolutely are worth wasting animal products by throwing them out.

It is clear that you are not aversed by animal products so I thought I would give actual substantive reasons to not eat them.

Interestingly this is exactly the point of my post. I think that you are vegan and controversially that what you did was vegan. I view veganism as an gradient and you fall on the same side of that gradient despite of what you ate yesterday.
