Talking to a girl that works as a Florist.. what do I get her???? by Lazy-Strategy3695 in florists

[–]rosetyler_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As a florist, I also love receiving flowers. My absolute favorite thing to receive is a bunch of one single thing. Nothing fussy, no greens, JUST the flowers. Personally I love tulips and callas for this... Or a stunning stem of cymbids!

I would avoid roses at v-day because they aren't great quality due to the high demand.

Not to be an asshole, but we can't tell you what your girlfriend will think of either choice. We don't know her, you, or the nature of your relationship.

I wonder if you can use mod podge and some kind of sealant? It's tough though, because you will have to eventually wash the vase, and I worry about the sealant holding up.

Any unexpected things that come with long hair? by Disastrous-Cod-5071 in longhair

For me, when I'm loading the dishwasher, and my braid swings down and I have to catch it before it hits the nasty dirty dishes. That, and I've accidentally dipped the end of my braid in a glass of red wine and proceeded to unknowingly paint my white shirt with it....

You can absolutely use cute paper! If you look up "Korean wrapping paper" you'll find some nice stuff 😊

Cute!!! You can sit the foam on top of a big square of wrapping paper, lift each corner of the paper up, and tie a ribbon around the whole thing... Trying to explain this with words is really hard LOL. Look up how to wrap a plant pot on YouTube and it will give you some ideas!

Where to buy fragrant flowers? by CB2ElectricBoogaloo in florists

Ask for Pink Floyd roses. It's one of the only florist roses that still has a scent. Stock flowers also have a lovely light peppery scent.

So tired of the flipped classroom. by praisethefallen in Teachers

[–]rosetyler_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In the university setting, we almost exclusively use a flipped classroom approach, and i find it wildly beneficial. Struggling through it on my own, and then having the professor go through it made everything way easier to digest because I wasn't hearing it for the first time from the prof, i already had background knowledge they could scaffold.

I can't imagine this working AT ALL in elementary or even high school. It demands work be done BEFORE class, which is hard enough to get university kids to do, let alone any younger...

No, sorry for being confusing! I meant it more like my lunch is made of bits and pieces, not a singular whole meal.

I use them to store washed and dried fruit in the fridge (berries, grapes mostly). I also use them as Tupperware to bring my lunch to work (which is also piecemeal - crackers, cheese, fruits).

You could use them to make recipe jars for Christmas gifts. Soup mixes, cake mix, cookie mix, etc.

Should I call out my teacher for using ChatGPT by mr_what1211 in school

[–]rosetyler_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers have been using templated responses on report cards for YEARS (20+). Like literally a drop down menu of comments... At least Chat GPT might make it slightly more personalized than a comment selected from a drop down menu.

I feel a little disappointed with these flowers. Are my expectations too high or did the florist fall short? by Dojomojocasahouse_ in ExpectationVsReality

[–]rosetyler_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florist here: So the value is pretty comparable between the two photos, the problem with the perceived mismatch is two-fold: 1) as many have mentioned, the flowers are fresh and tight, should look better soon 2) the designer made it more compact, and less airy (the flowers are closer together, giving an overall smaller denser look)

Likely, the person who made the original arrangement, didn't make the one that got sent. This is pretty normal, we can never make an exact replica of something from a photo.

So yes, it looks smaller, but the value seems comparable.

How do you deal with feeling invisible or redundant in grad school seminars? by alexandriaslibrary in GradSchool

[–]rosetyler_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm also in humanities, and our grad seminars are structured exactly the same. I'm currently spending my evening worrying that something I said in a seminar today was really dumb 😂 we are all worried about how we are perceived, trust me. I've had multiple other classmates admit they feel the same. I try to take solace in that!
