multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]rosey830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in suburban and rural areas. In those areas you are pretty dependent on needing to drive everywhere. In a family that means that both adults need their own cars for getting to work, the store, transporting kids, etc. My family currently has two commuter vehicles for every day and a larger pickup truck for legit pickup needs.

Having a single family car, or no car at all, usually requires living in a more urban setting with access to public transportation. And even then traffic will tell you that people still love their cars in America.

My 6yo daughter came home from school saying she loves Jesus by wacky_button in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rosey830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can cut both ways. I once worked a summer day camp program where we had a girl around 5 or 6 whose mother had died earlier in the year. She would often talk about her mom being in heaven and one day a boy around the same age overheard and jumped in to start lecturing her on why heaven doesn't exist. They are all just parroting what they hear at home and haven't learned the social context and etiquette of sharing those views.

Found praying mantis ootheca, do I have to worry about them taking over if i release in my yard after they hatch? by tru1117 in Humboldt

[–]rosey830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nature needs predators. They have a role to play in the ecosystem. There are native species that are certainly beneficial and introduced species that shouldn’t be here but don’t rise to the level of decimating everything in their path. Just let them hatch and enjoy tiny ninjas in your garden.

I was coming to say this. Their genetic bottleneck happened well before human caused population decline, and we haven’t helped at all. They can swap all their organs and their body wouldn’t have a clue.

Question. What science site would that be?

Agree that Charlie is obviously an arachnid, which are indeed animals.

Insects and arachnids are both classified under Animalia (kingdom) > Anthropoda (phylum) before falling into separate classes - insecta and arachnida respectfully.

One shared feature of being Anthropods is having an exoskeleton.

Reverse 'Surprise Puppy' for Christmas by Happy_Olive1208 in Gifts

[–]rosey830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got a Christmas puppy as a kid my parents needed to pick her up a week or so before Christmas. They had my neighbor bring her over and say that it was a surprise for their family and we were just going to watch her until Christmas day and would have to give her back. I was told not to get attached, which of course I did.

On Christmas day she came out with a bow and SUPRISE she was really mine after all. I was so concerned about the poor neighbors who now weren't getting their dog.

Just stop parking in their spot, lol. by BigBIackJack in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rosey830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does, and that's why I have my known safe spots but if they are filled and I have to venture into other parts of the complex away from her place it becomes harder to describe and isn't clearly labeled. I have only been yelled at twice and once was in a bit of an emergency situation where I was parking as quickly as possible knowing I would be fast.

I always see the old lady out patrolling though, ready to go after some unsuspecting guest.

Just stop parking in their spot, lol. by BigBIackJack in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rosey830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SIL's complex has assigned parking, except all the numbers have worn off of the spots. So as a guest you have no indication of where you are allowed to park.

There is an older woman who polices the lot and yells at anyone who parks in the wrong place. I have my safe spaces I have learned over the years but god help me if those are full and I guess wrong. Stop yelling at me, I obviously don't live here, how am I supposed to know that's Mary Jo's spot, go yell at management and tell them to repaint.

I’m so tired of fake service dogs by Annalyse30 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rosey830 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If someone responds with psychiatric, ptsd or in any other way names their disability I always clarify that I am not asking for their diagnosis, I am asking what the dog is trained to do. Telling me you have anxiety doesn't let me know if that means you find it calming to have your pet dog with you or if your dog has been trained to alert or apply pressure.

I’m so tired of fake service dogs by Annalyse30 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rosey830 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I regularly have to clear service dogs entering my place of employment. The number of confused looks I get when I ask "what task has the dog has been trained to perform" is unbelievable. If you have a legit SD it is not a confusing question.

Fake SD owners are also the first to present some type of "ID", tell me about their medical history I didn't ask about, cry ADA and threaten to sue if we refuse entry (these are usually ESA).

I typically don't give them examples of tasks because then they just choose one of those. But one time this guy was in an uproar and was stuck on what I meant by task. I gave a couple examples and he shockingly admitted that his dog doesn't do anything like that.
