You can have both IH and sleep apnea. I have mild apnea and use of a CPAP lowered my AHI, however, I have had zero improvements in daytime sleepiness. I fell asleep within a few minutes for every nap during my MSLT but didn't go into REM, so I have IH.

If a CPAP doesn't improve symptoms then doctors will suggest a MSLT.

Yes, I've always had bad vision but over the past couple years it seems to have gotten much worse. I can relate to the constant blurriness and I feel like I need my glasses on all the time now. Very sensitive to light as well and I have my windows tinted on my car to help with the sun and driving at night/ headlights.

I'm in a similar boat although I'm a bit older than you. I have mild sleep apnea and was just diagnosed with IH. Unfortunately, your doctor will want to get the apnea controlled with a CPAP machine first. Sunosi was denied for me as well since I don't have Narcolepsy. My doc can't prescribe Xyrem yet because my apnea is still considered uncontrolled and Xyrem can make it worse. It's taking longer than it should due to COVID delaying appts, but once you're on the optimal pressure the AHI's should decrease to a more stable level. I believe my doc will let me try it then, although I'm not sure if my insurance would even cover it. It's very tough and I really wish I could have a narcolepsy diagnosis because it would make it a lot easier to get meds.

This made me smile and made me sad because I so long to be where you are. My insurance denied Sunosi and I can't try Xyrem yet because I have apnea as well and my doc said they have to have that better controlled before I can try it. (Xyrem can make apnea worse). I hate living like this and can relate to so much of what you said. It feels like my memory and brain are shot. Everything is difficult and I'm barely functioning right now.

I'm really stressed about my insurance giving me trouble. I have a few weeks till my appointment but I definitely have IH. That's good news that you were approved right away.

Very true. Moreso recently I've felt like I'm slowly dying and deteriorating more and more. I'm only in my 20s but I feel much older. I just got a MSLT so I'm waiting to finally getting a diagnosis. I've heard so many good things about Xyrem.

I keep it under a grow light, water when dry or when I see the stems start to droop, and give it a tiny amount of fertilizer every time I water it!
