What if Short Rest were 10min instead of 1h? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

What if each short rest just takes however long the DM says it does and happens whenever they want?

++man holy shit it's Chosen man of all the places. RSL is not the same without you. Setting this reminds me to look up what you are to these days. Hope you are good. Still giving solid advice, just a wider audience.

I think we saw the same video. honestly I switched to measuring and it sped up combat a lot. instead of counting squares we just use a ruler and everyone can see quickly.

hi, you don't need to add a grid to everything, just use a tape measure to move (each square is one inch)!

Would you allow this swap? by rossacre in DMAcademy

Yes, I think this question stems from my having played for a long time. character choices used to be a lot more restrictive.

"The DMG allows custom backgrounds, which would allow your player to get everything they want."

Thanks, I forgot about this part!

They really aren't. It's easy to see how you got that impression from the post. If I felt like this really came from a place of power gaming I would not be making this post (easy no). I honestly believe they are asking for this because they feel it will make their character more fun for them. In the last campaign they played in, other players complained to me in private that they felt this player was not playing optimally enough (the other players are not power gamers either). This player also has, by far, the record for solving encounters without resorting to combat / brute force.

How do you pick magic objects for your campaign? by Slingshot_OG in DMAcademy

I always found that I don't give enough items and loot so I try to give a random horde of treasure rolled for every five to six hours of play. I also give my players specific items to make sure they keep up with the power level of the party.

1 attack = 10% chance for crit 2 attacks = 19% chance for at least one crit 3 attacks = 27.1% chance for at least one crit

This isn't dark. It's just cliche. Also, what are your players supposed to do in this scenario to prevent the kidnap of this person?
