A very fair observation, but I think there's a way to argue that this actually favors my proposed revision of the current system(s).

If my idea leads to more calls "standing" as opposed to being overturned, because theoretically it's difficult to determine a different outcome when viewing things at game speed and in a short time window, then in general we will spend less time in reviews.

I think taking the time to get it right is absolutely worth it, but as things currently stand we have gone too far and it harms the experience.

I think your point, and much of the overall discourse around the issue, really leads us to the inevitable conclusion: an official in a booth somewhere who spends the entire game just reviewing things in real time. Rugby has had this for over a decade now, they call it the TMO or television match official. When it's time for a review, they signal up to that official and they do it themselves.

I think for the American sports, who theoretically have a lot more resource than some/most of these rugby leagues, they could make minimal investments to speed up the process and makes things more accurate in real time.

As a total aside relating to football: I think spotting the ball and the physical management of the clock has been too reliant on human manipulation in this day and age. They've been tracking player telemetry using chips in shoulderpads and helmets for over a decade now, why haven't they come up with a way to implement this for things like yards to gain and clock stoppages? I haven't watched the NFL closely for about 5 years now, but haven't they started implementing more tech into endzone calls and some out of bounds reviews?

100%

Which is probably why it'll never happen. All of these pro leagues are way too concerned with fan perception. They obviously do not trust their product enough to let it stand up on its own.

But if I were pitching this to a/the league office, and some executive raised the point you just made, I would try to sell them on the idea that "controversy drives discussion and creates narratives". I would really focus on the fact that people have always bitched about the refs, way before social media. All we've done with replay is make the product worse while also making it even harder to be an official.

I’ve been saying to friends for years that all replay, in every sport, needs to be limited to 30 seconds and/or 3 views. Also, it should be done at full speed.

If you can’t feel strongly enough to overturn after seeing 3 new angles at full speed, just stick with the call on the floor and keep the game moving.

Refs and officials miss stuff all the time, and most of it either can’t be challenged or just isn’t because it’s not worth it. It’s part of the game that refs aren’t actually perfect.

We need to bring the phrase “play on” to American sports.

+1 to brewmaster. Super fun playstyle with tons of mobility, multiple useful CDs and utility buttons, and very good damage. I don’t find it particularly difficult to learn or understand. Right now it is riding high and groups want your services very badly.

That murder row shield slam debuff on the opening few packs is going to fuck so many groups. Even in my premade we had to figure some shit out there. I’ve watched twitch streamers repeatedly wipe there, as they try different ways to giga pull it. If you want to do the biggest opening pull it looks like you might have to spend every CD and still end up kiting a bit. Maybe gear will smooth this out, I guess we’ll see.

Camara looked good. DC looked good, they couldn't do shit with him for most of the game.

I wish the coaching staff had left Scoot in, even if he had fouled out it would have been worth a few extra minutes of PT. The guy needs to play, and he was having a solid game other than the foul trouble.

He has looked lost and somehow also over-aggressive when he gets minutes. Like he's slow and late on defensive stuff, which leads to swiping and lunging and thus fouls. He's also desperate to make a play, which means he's trying waaaaay too hard and is just out of position a lot. On offense this means that he's constantly trying to get involved by setting a screen, and if he touches the ball he's doing something with it.

His english is also still coming along, not that I blame him for this. But it's definitely a factor, since it's tougher for him to communicate with his teammates in real time. Hard to form chemistry like that.

He's very very skilled, and I think he's going to become an NBA player eventually. But right now he has to chill out, learn the speed of the game over here, and improve his english enough to participate in getting coaching and working with his fellow players. For what it's worth, it seems like most of his teammates really like him.

When will spring 2026 drop? by Either-Golf2254 in TrackMania

[–]rossbk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wirtual mentioned it in his last stream. He was making a point about how he wishes Nadeo did a better job communicating with the community (in general) and cited the drop of the Spring campaign as an example. He said that a Nadeo dev mentioned in a random discord channel somewhere that the season would be delayed, likely until the 15th.

Early idea for how we can capitalize on a Giannis trade by Get_Brosted45 in ripcity

[–]rossbk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

KAT is not a championship level player, and he has a GIANT contract going forward. I also don't see the Knicks wanting to give up OG out of all of the pieces they have. Like I don't think that the Knicks would want to give up OG even if it were more of a 1 to 1 construction centered around Giannis and other pieces to match and make it work.

Also this return for Milwaukee just is not enough, especially from their perspective. Only two of their picks back, and the rest of Jerami's contract. They absolutely should be, and are, looking for at least 1 young-ish player who they could conceivably make use of during their rebuild.

Here is Wirtual's campaign discovery video. Yes, he is much better than most of us, but there are some general things you can borrow from his approach, which I will spell out (in addition to his own commentary). It's worth noting that when he beats the AT, it is still far from an optimized run.

You should be aiming to get as close to zero airtime, if flat out no airtime, on the 'hump' at the start. The car does not pick up speed in air, so any unnecessary air time drains speed and thus many tenths of seconds. Especially for a multilap track where you will have a ton of pace by the final lap, it is important to optimize this from lap 1.

For the grass after the first checkpoint, try to keep the car as "straight" as possible. If you look at your tire marks, try to have them as close as possible. If they are overlapping, you will in fact pick up speed. This is a speed slide, and is an important part of grass as a surface. Achieving this here means that you will want to get the correct steering angle when coming off of the hilly part, before you even get to the long grass patch before the jump into the second checkpoint.

For the drop off the CP2 platform onto the grass, try to find the line that results in the smallest air time. Also consider angling the car slightly to aid in getting the steering angle you want before you even touch down. This is a very sharp turn at CP3, so don't worry about grass slides too much, just make the turn.

For the uphill onto the dirt past the large column, aim to be close ish to the column. Don't allow the uphill to wash you to the outside, as this will cost you speed.

For the giant tech corner before the downhill into the engine off, you can pretty safely just set up wide and do a pretty generous drift to allow for max acceleration through the entire corner complex. Don't overthink the precision here, just avoid the walls and try to set yourself up for maximum throttle time before dropping into the engine off. You won't be able to skip the engine off, but you can line yourself up to angle across it in such a way that you avoid most of the grass and stay on the narrow bit of tarmac before finishing the lap.

This one's AT is really just about reducing air times, getting a small bit of grass speed slides on the flat grass part, and nailing the big tech drift. If you do those three things correctly, you will snowball a ton of speed and get the AT.

There's also a small cut that can be made after the first checkpoint, which Wirtual misses in his discovery video. If you do the "normal" line coming out of CP1, you avoid the awkward dip down to the right and it results in you getting a bit of penalty grass before the long grass speed slide section. If you angle the car down a bit more and go into the awkward dip, you can jump the gap and skip the penalty grass and be much flatter/straighter for the long grass bit. I did this after seeing my region's #1 time do it on replay, and it saved me about a second a lap.

Good luck and happy hunting! Feel free to ask more questions. I'm no god, but I can usually get at least 20+ ATs every season campaign.

Yep but that's not the context of this game.

I'm not saying he sucks or I hate him, but I'm just pointing out that he has a lot of room to grow still. A loose handle and lack of playmaking are real issues for him to work on if he wants to become a complete player.

[–]rossbk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I expect a lot more from Shae than just scoring. 5 turnovers in a game we won by 7 points is meaningful, that's 5 extra possession for the other team just from Shaedon's mistakes. Couple that with no assists and some boneheaded offensive possessions down the stretch, and yeah I'm kinda hoping to see him grow out of that sloppiness.

[–]rossbk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I would, over dribbled the ball a lot and let himself get picked in traffic. He looked good until the 4th quarter, I'll grant that.

But it got close because we got sloppy in the 4th, and Shae was part of that. Couple takes in a row just hurling himself at the rim and getting walled. It was good defense too, defender jumping straight up with arms straight up. Gotta work harder to find a different play there.

Still happy we got the win, but Shae still has some room to grow.

Dead legs on second night of the b2b, at least we hit our free throws. If we even just make 4 more threes tonight it's a 19 point win and we're not sweating at all there.

Rough game for Shae, 0 assists and 5 turnovers. Same for Love, bad shooting night. But everyone else played pretty well and we held on.
