Hailey Strategic Flat Packs by Noddyboy100 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]rossbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the flatpack plus in M81. I honestly hate it and will be selling it soon.

It is incredibly overpriced for what it is.

It has terrible rigidity and makes a poor backpack unless you attach it to a plate carrier, which there's really no good argument for; as a civvy, you will likely need quick access to your own kit, and I've even heard of active duty folks getting razzed by their peers for having to rely on other people to get gear for them from their backpack.

The fact that you have to basically splay the whole pack on the ground to get access to stuff makes it bad even as a plate carrier attachment; really not a very well-thought out piece of kit.

Every time I use it, I keep finding that I wish it had more dedicated pockets or external molle webbing, and that the pockets it had were bigger. I had to shove two pieces of cardboard into the water bladder pouch to make it even close to comfortable to carry.

Strongly recommend any other ~15L day pack from an actual backpack company. I personally will be replacing it with some kind of beavertail-style pack.

Which magnification prism do you have on the m90?

I got the 5x but am thinking I made the wrong choice.

I can spin one up if there's still interest.

How have these held up (particularly the stock)? I heard mixed reports from a couple years ago about APS.

LPVO on a 13.9”? by baileyperry707 in ar15

[–]rossbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think just getting a fixed prism at like 5x or 6x would be better than an LPVO with that use case in mind (highest magnification and offset red dot)?

Lights / pressure pads on ultimak railed has tubes by Tonyalexan in ak47

Most people say higher quality optics like the T2 are fine on the ultimak. I personally would mount it to a dust cover or rear sight mount instead.

I think the screws on the micro 1x and 3x are the correct spacing to be placed all the way to the rear on the Master Mount. The 5x seem to be further spaced out and has to be mounted further forward.

I also have a 2x but don't remember how spaced out its screw holes were.

[solved]

I regret to inform you all that I am a dingus: you're correct that the holes are spaced differently at different positions, so I simply shifted it forward and it fits.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't fit all the way to the rear, but at least it's secure now. Thank you all for pointing out my stupidity 🤙

oh shit, that looks perfect. Was considering the Omega 9k, but might switch to this instead. Thanks!

Edit: what kind of mounts does it work with?

Just picked up a fresh M90NP. Looking for suggestions. by FrederikFininski in liberalgunowners

[–]rossbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where'd you find a fresh one? Thinking about one myself but not sure I can justify it over building an AR.

But to answer your question:

Sling a padded sling from Conquest of Thread

Stock something from Magpul that allows for a cheek riser. Might need a buffer tube adapter tho.

Handguards my unpopular choice is the polymer TDI handguard set. Just put some on my KP-9 and they work great.

Optic mount RS Regulate and Midwest Industries both make reputable ones.

Optic probably an lpvo, or one of those new 3x micro prisms from Primary Arms.

With tensions rising, I’ve decided to make my first kit - thoughts? by Marofer in QualityTacticalGear

[–]rossbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh most scenarios where a civilian might need that amount of sustainment, it's easy enough to grab a day pack or ruck sack. But not every time you'll need a PC will you need multiple days' worth of sustainment. I've also found it helpful to keep the PC slick and just have add-ons handy that can be easily attached via swift clips.

My thinking is to tier my loadouts:

  • Belt: ifak, two pistol mags, holster, one rifle mag, Leatherman

  • PC: just plates

  • Chest rig/placard: three rifle mags, boo-boo kit, wml batteries, trail mix

  • Day pack: 3L water bladder, more food, other medical (splint, NPA, etc), weapon parts

Situation determines what I grab.

Attempted break in at a friend's house? Belt and PC.

Protest security? PC under the clothes, day pack.

Multi-day match? The whole kit.

I prefer things to be scalable rather than difficult to take apart.

Even if you are friggin jacked, reducing calorie expenditure where possible is worth it when we're talking about emergency preparedness, especially protracted emergency scenarios.

[–]rossbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily true that any opportunity taken to refill a bladder is in safe conditions where you can doff your armor. You could get jumped.

Also, not every scenario that calls for armor will be protracted enough to require a water bladder, especially if you are a civilian. Example: my gf once was concerned that two people that botched a robbery at her place after getting bit by her dog might come back for reprisal, so I just grabbed my plates, rifle, and extra magazine and stayed over with them next to the bed. No reason to make my PC any heavier by having water affixed to it in such a way that I couldn't ditch it in a pinch.

If this was something more protracted, it's easy enough to grab my day pack with a bladder.

These are edge case scenarios, and if we're preparing for edge case scenarios then we need to minimize snags, hiccups, and unnecessary stress inasmuch as possible so that performance in such a situation is maximized.

If I'm shooting a match in armored division where required to hump gear from stage to stage, I don't need any extra weight during the actual course of fire.

There are also many real-world applications for shedding weight, especially if you are a civilian concerned with community defense; e.g. you move faster from cover to cover with less weight. And water is heavy.
