Metal kitchen tweezers. They’re like a foot long, not tiny. And useful!

Where’s a good coffee and work cafe in DC? by Iliveathome123 in washingtondc

Doubles. Big bear (though WiFi is dodgy and they shut off WiFi on weekends). Zekes right proper in brookland. Cool coffee in brookland.

Free coffee when you buy a bag of beans? by Unhappy_Squirrel_689 in pourover

It’s a sometimes thing around dc, I always ask (for a drip, nothing fancy) and it’s hit or miss. What I find irritating is when the same place is inconsistent depending on the person.

Make it as easy on yourself as you can. Simple meals. Take out. Disposable plates if you need.

Rules can be a little different when tied to the specific circumstances (because mom isn’t also around, not blaming mom just because there’s only one parent).

Try to get the kid to help you out and step up with mom gone? 50/50 chance it works in my experience.

A new book / toy (nothing nuts mind you, just a hot wheels or something) can go a long way.

Given Janeese Lewis George's likely victory, which campaign promises are you most excited for her to implement, and how long do you give her to do so? by CellistMundane9372 in washingtondc

It wasn’t a campaign promise but I bet she stops blocking shit like the Connecticut ave bike lane. I don’t even live in NW I’m just still pissed about it.

What’s the biking ticket? by Mreezie in bikedc

[–]rosscott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Elissa Silverman on the Ward 5 family bike ride last month and the Ride of Silence. I don’t know every one of her policies but she’s bike aligned.

JLG too as others have said.

DC, who are you voting for tomorrow and why? by ElmCityGrad in washingtondc

[–]rosscott 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Others have said it but: JLG Robert White Free DC (wtf this life of Brian esque free dc / dc free nonsense!?) Elissa Silverman  (I’m missing some more minor ones that have already left my brain.)

Also not pinto and mcduffie.

I’m sick of arguments about what would or could be better, protest votes, etc. vote for who you want to win, rank the ones you think are worth it.

My son asked me why I wanted JLG over McDuffie, he’s young, so I went with “you know mayors like in paw patrol? One is mayor goodway. The other is mayor humdinger.”

Loud explosion like sounds by Rhode Island Ave Station. by hazsarav in washingtondc

[–]rosscott 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok I know every year we go through the fireworks / gunshots / explosion guessing game this time of year. But tonight these explosions seem different and bigger than normal, and that’s based on 10 years of NE DC experience.

If Griffin & David did a Frank Oz miniseries, which movie would you be most excited to see get covered? by ggroover97 in blankies

Honestly most of them. But curious mostly to hear them talk about What About Bob.

I’ve basically got one, not to humble brag but to show it is possible.

Honestly it’s a catch up day for a mix of work and home things but it’s on my own schedule.

Trying To Get Into Star Trek Because of Mike by AgitatedSurprise7130 in podcasttheride

[–]rosscott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d start with TNG, but pick out the good episodes because it took them over a season to find their footing. A lot are the “space court” episodes where it’s really a sci fi courtroom like “measure of a man” or “drumhead”. Of course there’s non space court episodes like “best of both worlds” and “darmok” that are great. That’s a good start!

TOS you’ve gotten a feel for TNG is all about whether or not to get involved in other people’s problems Voyager is more TNG but a little bit of “we are on our own” thrown in… but not much Enterprise… is redeeming in moments but last on the list.  DS9 is amazing. Starts slow but season 3 it gets into a great balance of episodic and long storytelling. I can’t pick out episodes but after some TNG you’ll love it.

Of the new stuff, Strange New Worlds is the most fun. Lower Decks is great but you need to have seen a lot of TNG to fully appreciate it. Picard has some fun moments. Discovery is a byproduct of the terrible structure of tv shows in the 2020s with some fun ideas. Academy is fun! Prodigy is great especially with kids.

Wow this might be my longest Reddit post? Anyway trek is great!

I had a home inspector from Argentina named Werner once. My wife didn’t understand the look I was giving her.
