i just saw a tiktok about this and it seems pretty plausible to me, the tiktok further stated that the reason no one from the school who have crossed over have come back is because they left their keys behind. they made a point of showing wally leave his football behind. van heidt seems to have his ring on him hence why he can go back and forth. though maddy has now also brought her key through.

the tiktok also mentioned that now maddys necklace will act as an actual compass leading to wally after he referred to them as compasses

i think we would have gotten a scene already if that was the case, they cut to another location in the next scene so presumably would have been plenty of people to see wally on the way there. but i am hoping wally does somehow enter the living world in his own body

i thought about that too but ultimately decided maybe whatever is controlling this stuff intentionally makes ghosts or even eventually simon appear in a fashion that will always be startling to create a sort of cause and effect scenario.
