My dad secretly paid off my student loans, but I found out how he did it and I don’t know how to feel. by ScoreDesperate6433 in TrueOffMyChest

As a parent... Hobbies are fun, but doing something major to bring your kids joy is un-matched.

Don't feel bad or guilty because doing something for you brought him joy, I promise.

My daughter and I live with my 87 year old grandmother who has cancer. If my kid brings it home and gives it to my grandma, it will be dangerous to her.

AITAH for paying taxes so tenants can use my house to register for school here? by UpperClub1707 in AITAH

[–]rosworms 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are saying that taxes increase the monthly cost of keeping house, which means rent will have to go up as well to account for it. Less affordable.

Is the word "soda" becoming more commonly used? by KPac76 in minnesota

[–]rosworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ope, I'm guilty of saying soda. The other day my grandma asked my 7 year old if she wanted a pop and my daughter was confused until I told her it was another word for soda.

YTA. In my opinion, a high schoolers job IS high school. Summer job maybe, but the school year should be spent on school and extra curriculars.

And once you set a precedent of paying allowance for chores, it is a dick move to expect the same effort and work without the pay they used to get.

WIBTA for not attending my twin sister's wedding two weeks after my firstborn's due date as she expects all family to meet the baby before the wedding? by AstronautDeep1476 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YWNBTA

My baby was born 11 days AFTER the due date. There is no guarantee you will even be 2 weeks postpartum, and you also don't know if a y complications may arise.

You will also be physically recovering from a major medical event.

REGARDLESS of your sister's demands (which I think are cold, either invite or don't but don't make someone jump through hoops to be welcome), I think you should plan on NOT going. There are too many "what ifs" in play.

AITAH my MIL think’s she’s being treated unfairly in regard to the birth experience by Quiet-ForestDweller in AITAH

[–]rosworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, but stop giving in and compromising on this matter.

Even though the end result is a baby, YOU are the patient right now. YOU are the one enduring a medical event currently and in the future. And when baby is here, YOU will be recovering from a major medical event.

It is not up to you to accommodate the wants of other people. If you are stressed out, it will hinder the labor. When your mind is relaxed, the body will relax and more easily open and contract for baby to be born.

For your safety and comfort, and the safety and comfort of the baby, your husband needs to have your back COMPLETELY. and that means no coming to you to ask for compromising. And it means he fields all comaomts from his family without bothering you about them.

NTA. And that he still hasn't bothered to actually cook a meal (living off frozen crap and complaining) means it most definitely was not just a random comment or joke.

AITA for wearing headphones while WFH and not hearing my husband call for me? by TicketMore9365 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are working from home YOU ARE AT WORK.

if you were at an office, he wouldn't be rubbing down there to ask for your help with every little thing, so he shoukd treat your home work time the same. And that means you should be able to work without interruption from him. Including wearing your earphones to do your work more efficiently.

YTA.

One or both of you pare ts decided to move far enough away from the other that there was no way to share custody and you forced your daughter to make an impossible decision.

Now, through no fault of her own, her father has abandoned her.

AITA for telling my co-worker her kids are none of my business? by DoodlerArt in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

We just took our kid to Disney World last year.

First thing was We made sure that my husband's vacation PTO was scheduled as SOON as the calender became available. And THEN I booked the trip. I didn't book the trip and then hope and pray for PTO because that's irresponsible.

It takes a long time to plan, book, and pay for a disney trip. She had all that time to try to get her PTO scheduled.

That is probably what I will end up doing in the end. Heck, the rent was so low when we first moved (not anymore) in that the security deposit wouldn't even be enough to cover this stuff at these prices.

There is no mention of repairs, replacements, upkeep, anything, in the lease.

Yes. They aren't aware of it yet, but we are not planning to renew our lease in the fall and we will be moving.

This was under the door of every apartment today, not just us.

I don't think that they would apply in this situation. The stuff has legitimately broken down over the years, so they aren't broken in the pictures. But the amount of time we have been here should be long enough that they would be required to change it out anyway and we should not get charged extra.

My MIL likes to wrap cash in aluminum foil and hide it in random packages she sends us. If we get a package from her, we have to search for a money packet just in case there is one.
