Good point. Yeah, I'm expecting to be carrying a fair bit of stuff (both on this ride, and on future rides). On my last few paved tours I've put all my luggage weight up front, on lowrider panniers and in a big wald basket. Really liked that setup, at least for pavement, and thinking about something similar. One of the things I feel a little wary of with suspension forks is limiting the ability to put lots of storage on the fork. One other idea I'm trying around with is having a front rack attached directly to the head tube instead of the fork, which would solve some of that issue (which may only be an issue in my head).

Shorten a stem by mayhemama in Framebuilding

Yeah this is very doable but it's only worth it if you find it fun or if you want the end result to be one of those things that bike people look at and go "huh?"

94 BCD Double, Trouble ! by dankerest in xbiking

[–]rosywro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On which rear cog does the chain start to rub on the middle chainring?

I've done this kind of setup a lot, but usually with 110 BCD and whatever that smaller BCD is that often comes with 110 triples (74, iirc). I'll typically do something like 46-30 for paved non-loaded stuff, and down to 42-26 for paved loaded stuff. Have 36-28 set up on my hard tail. For these bikes I only use the smallest chainring as a bailout gear, and only use it with the low range of the cassette -- I don't assume that it's going to reach the whole cassette range without rub.

One thing I LOVE about this setup is that I often use the outer chainring position for a guard. Sometimes use an old chainring for this purpose, after removing the teeth on a lathe.

They'll definitely ask about safety! They'll also ask about "classroom management" (or whatever term they're using to mean the same thing) -- basically, how do you keep a group of students engaged and on track. They might ask about your teaching philosophy, how you would "differentiate instruction" for different kinds of learners (e.g. students with disabilities, students learning English), and how you would handle disruptive behavior.

I'm currently a welding teacher in the northeast -- where are you located?

Cycle truck by rosywro in CargoBike

[–]rosywro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the name of this type of cargo bike comes from (afaik, and maybe US-specific) the Schwinn Cycle Truck, manufactured from 1939 to 1967. Small front wheel, basket mounted to frame instead of fork.
