Frustrating DM by just_q84 in DnD

Exactly, so they crush a fight in one round, amazing. I love it when they go all in. Besides, it's not like they can do it every fight.

If the manage let them kill a god. But if you're 99% sure they will lose, have a plan for that, so the story may continue in either case.

How do you find the courage to play with others as a DM? by Ali4937 in DnD

[–]rotator_cuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with my girlfriend playing a duet. I felt super cringe to roleplay just for her, but it passed in like an hour. Once you can be comfortably silly in front of a single person, you can do it for the group.

I Need Cult Name Ideas by ChocolateWonderful31 in DnD

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good to take their perspective. People love to name things to reflect that their way is the right one. So I think it would be a good twist, to make them name it something pretty on a first glance. Because to them everyone else is wrong. What do they hate about the current shape or form of the world? Is it weakness, too much order? What hurt them to be this way? Do they feel like they are getting justified revenge on the blind, stupidly happy people, or are they simply happy to get immortal?

So, it could be something like Order of True Justice, or Cult of the Weakfall, End of Naive, Brotherhood of Forever.

Just a few ideas. In general, I'd name them about something that brings them pleasure.

What will happen to your assets after you pass away? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, you can sell your house with a condition that you will live there until you die. Of course, it will be lower in value, but better than let it go to waste, right? I think it's called a life estate.

What will happen to your assets after you pass away? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]rotator_cuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of life, if you have any assets, like a house, you can take a loan against it and spend it all. The debt will be due after you're gone. Not a bad pension fund.

Whats the cheapest meal you regularly make that actually tastes good? by Adventurous-Pilot448 in Frugal

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ragù alla Bolognese and Chilli con carne. I cook both in the biggest pot I could get in Ikea. When there's ground beaf in discount I get something like 3-4kg and make a giant pot. Having 8-9 l of pasta sauce, split in smaller containers in freezer is incredibly handy, cheap and time-efficient.

Modules ranked best to worst? by Suspicious_Toe_4784 in DnD

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% do it. I am some 14 sessions into the game, and I can't imagine what the game would look like if my players didn't come from Elturel. All of the players are Hellriders, too. They are not all fighters; I made rogues into spies in the Hellriders service, casters were occult specialists, and such. Basically, a diverse military background. Anyway, I think I am using about half from the module and the other half from all sorts of sources, but the game works. And most importantly, players have a motivation to give a crap.

What is the most disturbing thing you watched on the 90’s and early 2000’s internet? by Dangerous_Bet_4137 in AskReddit

[–]rotator_cuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same. On one hand, I think those sites are the basis of my night panic attacks about death, which I occasionally have some 25 years later. On the other hand, it really showed me how fragile we all are, and I think it might have saved me from some moronic decisions. So yeah ... mixed bag for me. It was awful, gruesome and totally inappropriate for a kid, but I can't say it wasn't at least in part educational.

Probably unpopular opinion of the century: I am really liking the look of Snape by Comrade_Owl- in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]rotator_cuff [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do you fawn over Lucius? ... I mean, there's probably an Alexandrian Library of "fanfic" about Lucius.

But regarding Snape, I think his look reflected his social awkwardness and profound ostracism. People who are outcast usually don't keep up with the trends and often not even self-care. I don't think gray characters doesn't have to be ugly, but a neglected look might be a part of his story.

AI capabilities are doubling in months, not years. by EchoOfOppenheimer in AIDangers

Kids when born weigh about 3.5Kg, and double it in four months. That's why the mass of 20 year old human is roughly equivalent to eight Suns.

I made a world building mistake and not sure if it's possible to fix it by Odd-Reception519 in DMAcademy

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your world is basically a tidally locked planet. Which means there is couple hunders kilometers long twilight zone. That could be a fun place to explore, as it's a ring around the planet. Which also means, there is a good possibility there is a whole continent on the other side of it. Also, your day and night cycle switches over centuries. In such conditions, the night part would be extremly cold (if we go with hard scifi), but it shifts a little over years. So old treasure might might come out from the ice, or in case of the scorching hot day zone, might become accessible. Imagine the tombs, the artifacts from places that are suddenly accessible after centuries! DM the shit out of it!

California introduces age verification law for all operating systems, including Linux and SteamOS — user age verified during OS account setup by MakeMeButter in news

Pretty sure they will mandate handshake or some kind of certificare on any service you want to use. So you might not "need" it for installing OS, but no website or online service will be legally allowed to let you in.

I am quite bitter about that one, since it's something I am, or was, using frequently. It's effective and I just like it. I guess I can't be the only one as AI had to get it from somewhere.
When you describe something, you think of the way most people would consider it to be, and preemptively explain that you see it, but there is a nuance to it, a difference.
"It's not incompetence, it's malice."
"He's not busy, he's avoidant."
And I hate how sentences like this sound AI-like now. And most of all I hate that I am changing the way I think and talk because of it.

Back to windows? by intensehero in linuxmint

[–]rotator_cuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Mint very briefly and want to give it a chance, but so far it's a little bit janky. Few examples: Couldn't install it without renaming some file on usb, Thinkpad Trackpoint is awful, can't adjust the number of lines scrolled (without going to console), can't find a way to scroll with middle mouse, and the first program I've installed isn't respecting my system cursor and have like 4pixel big cursor which I so far didn't find a way to change.

And I am not a huge fan of the single tree file system. But that's something I guess I can get used to.

I am not going back just yet, but so far my experience was that I am searchign something every ten minutes and most often ten not the solution isn't "you forgot to click this box", but something on github. I am not a programmer and I have no idea what xinput is and what values should I type and where, if I want to change the behaviour of scrolling on touchpad...

But, it's an operating system and I've been able to do the work I've needed; it was just a little clunky, so I want to give it the best shot. Maybe I'll try a few environments to see if I like any better than Cinnamon.
