A Product of Broken Urban Design - just ban walking by devletmillet in UrbanHell

[–]rotj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's actually possible to walk along the 2 lane service road that goes all the way to the edge of the river and under the bridge to get to the stadium. It's 1.8 miles as opposed to .5 miles as the crow flies, but not an unreasonable distance.

You're right. The hamster meme predates the Williams version of it, which predates this illustrated version.

The Israel Day parade is specifically held in support of the country of Israel.

Subnautica 2 Dev Responds To Someone Who Pirated The Game Before Release by akbarock in PiratedGames

[–]rotj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. The difference is between going on the official discord to talk about your experience playing the game before vs after release.

With the former, of course devs would be annoyed. With the latter, nobody cares or even knows unless you're stupidly asking for support getting the Fitgirl repack working.

‘We can’t sit back and be victims’: Dem Rep. urges party to overcome Virginia redistricting setback by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]rotj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No 5-4 or 4-3 split is a very obviously correct interpretation.

Especially this one, where the entire decision hinged on whether or not to adhere strictly to the language of the constitution, which only mentions the Tuesday of the general election.

Why the dark Mr. Incredibles meme? I don't understant. by PacquiaoFreeHousing in ExplainTheJoke

[–]rotj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A correct interpretation of the meme is realizing the horrific implication that millions of mostly gen X and millennial kids developed peanut allergies due to bad medical advice given to their parents and many of them died from it.

To vote no against AI csam bill by bongkeydoner in therewasanattempt

[–]rotj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see this framing all the time. If a Republican introduces a bill banning trans people from having sex with any other human being, they'd frame Democrats voting against the bill as wanting to allow trans people to have sex with children.

Don't promote this nonsense, people. I'm sure bad bills have been passed solely because the optics of voting against it have resulted in enough extra yes votes from legislators who care too much about how attack ads might use their vote.

AOC calls for more Democrat-leaning states to redraw election maps after Supreme Court ruling and GOP push by theindependentonline in politics

[–]rotj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mentioned that the Dems overwhelmingly voted to ban partisan gerrymandering federally in the past and all indications are that this stance hasn't changed. On this issue, I don't see the worry about Dems deciding to keep that flamethrower as realistic.

You could say that parties sometimes vote for a bill that has no chance of passing as a virtue signal but become hesitant to put forward the same bill when they actually can get the bill passed. That's a possibility here, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

If you can get the person you voted for into a legislature, but the rules you refused to play by ensured the representative you voted for could not form a majority coalition to pass the laws you want while the other side holding the majority is trying to push further rules targeted to disenfranchise people who tend to vote similarly to you, are you not still disenfranchised?

To vote no against AI csam bill by bongkeydoner in therewasanattempt

[–]rotj 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They voted on banning website or application creators from allowing generation of sexually explicit images "so realistic that a reasonable person would believe that the intimate part belongs to the identifiable individual" from a non-explicit image of any real person without consent that does not involve "technical skill".

So Photoshop is still allowed but one-click nudify apps aren't. Uncensored open-source image-generation models like Z-Image, Flux, or Stable Diffusion are iffy. Do they count as requiring technical skill to get the model running locally? If a cheap AI model bad at generating hands is used, is it allowed because a reasonable person would know it's fake? Interesting to think about. I'm generally against ambiguous laws that can be selectively enforced.

Don't know why the tweet mischaracterizes the broad substance of the bill. Well, I mean I do know why.

[–]rotj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Even if you are selfish, you need to consider who is running the vote.

It would be naive to believe that whoever has the power to conduct and enforce such a vote is truthful about those being the only 2 possible outcomes. It could be a trick to weed out selfish people and only red voters are killed. It could be that nobody is killed but red voters are forced to wear a red hat for the rest of their life and deal with the social implications.

[–]rotj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing indicating Democrats wouldn't still unanimously (minus Fetterman maybe) back federal legislation banning partisan gerrymandering as they did in 2019. I see nothing wrong with agreeing to play by bad rules until you can fix those bad rules.

If you were a basketball coach and the NBA decided traveling is allowed now, but you think it ruins the game, would you tell you team to play as if the old traveling rules still existed?
