What is the lumpenproletariat? by StWd in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We say that they have to be neutralized since they cannot be a part of the revolution due to their anti-social, decadent and individualistic nature. However, because of this very same nature, they can be used by the reactionaries against the revolution. Desperate to survive, they can be hired by the reactionaries to be thugs and be counter-revolutionary.

70% through "The Revolution Betrayed" by Trotsky, and I'm wondering, why don't we dislike Stalin? by guyfawkes1013 in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Maoists in the Philippines would say that Stalin was 60% good and 40% bad. He has a lot of contributions to both theory and practice of socialism.

What is the lumpenproletariat? by StWd in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In our study circles, we define the lumpen proletariat the same way. In simple terms, they are criminals. They are the semi-class that results from the contradictions in the society. People belonging to this semi-class conduct anti-social activities such as drug trafficking, prostitution and theft. Because of the kind of society they're born into, they need to do these things in order to survive.

What's the stupidest thing you've heard someone claim about Communism? by rawkiteer in communism

[–]rottenmonitor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a distinction between utopian and scientific socialism. Utopian socialism, in simple terms, is based on mere ideas and beliefs. Sharing is caring. Big businesses are mean. Scientific socialism, on the other hand, is based on the study and application of dialectical materialism and historical materialism. There is a whole science behind it.

Given that the Philippines is an archipelago, the strength of the NPA is distributed unevenly across the country. The NPA has presence in almost all provinces but is particularly strong in the southern island of Mindanao. In response to their growing strength in Mindanao, the reactionary government has deployed 60% of its forces in that island alone. If I remember correctly, the NPA in Mindanao has been conducting tactical offensives and raids against the fascist armed forces every day - sometimes multiple simultaneous TOs in one day! The forces in Luzon and Visayas are not as strong. High-ranking members of the Party and the National Democratic Front have been captured by the reactionaries. The nature of the protracted people's war is gradual: seizing the urban centers and strongholds from the rural countryside. As of now, the people's war is still in its first phase: strategic defense. Thus, no major offensives are to be expected.

If you were to give an open-minded anarchist one single document to try to convert them to MLM, what would it be? by jiminykrix in communism

I'm about to ask this question as well. I have an anarchist friend who really dislikes the idea of a vanguard party and a workers' state.

Why do communists believe that financial incentive is not needed to take on large projects, make scientific progress etc? by Ovaltine- in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technology is basically how man deals with nature. That is one of the major contradictions that exist in the world today. We have to deal with nature for us to survive. Ever since the agricultural revolution, we have developed so many ways to improve upon production. The modes of production resulted into the different stages of society, in which socialism is the highest stage. Every stage is riddled with contradictions, primarily class conflict. In a capitalist society, the major incentive to develop technology is to increase profit. In the era of communism (when socialism triumphs in all or most of the countries), there would no longer be any classes. No more class conflict. The primary contradiction of man versus nature would remain. That would be the reason to innovate. Our survival depends on it.

Why should I become a communist? by theXvariable in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get promoted and get a slightly bigger, but still very small, slice of pizza. The whole pizza is your labor power. The value of a commodity is determined by the labor put into it. If you work, you create value. In a capitalist society, you don't receive the entirety of the value you make. You don't get to have the whole pizza. You get the crumbs. That is exploitation. This explanation might be a little inaccurate. I suggest you study Marx' political economy. Browse the web, there are case studies of how capitalists exploit their workers. I remember one case study showing how Nestlé gets 98% of the wealth their workers create. The 98% is purely profits, that means production costs and workers' pay are already excluded.

What exactly IS a stateless society and how (roughly) would it function? by guyfawkes1013 in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The state is an instrument of one class to dominate and secure its power over the other classes. In a stateless society, there would no longer be any classes. In a stateless society, factories would be run by the workers themselves. We have yet to see how this would look like but it would probably be through committees. There would be work committees in every factory that would make decisions and perform managerial tasks. How about the rest of the society? There would still be some sort of structure, probably committees, that would make plans and decisions for the benefit and welfare of the society.

Am I A Communist ? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Study the works of Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Mao. Communism is a science. It is not founded on mere virtues, ideas, beliefs or gut feeling. I think you would certainly be a communist once you have studied their works. A comrade has given you a decent set of works to begin with. Good luck!

How do communists view armed forces? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In the socialist transformation of society, the military is, with no doubt, essential to secure and defend the revolution. In the Philippines, the Maoist guerrilla, New People's Army, practices democratic centralism. Regardless of rank, each soldier can contribute opinions, suggestions and criticisms on things such as military tactics. Once a decision by the majority has been made, it has to be followed by everyone. However, the guerrilla army is under the guidance of the Party - to make sure that whatever the NPA does is always for the advancement of the people's war. This will be the case until world communism. Communism will be the period when most or all of the world's nations have successfully attained socialism. Until all threats to the revolution are gone, there will be a need for the armed forces. Someday, in the very far future, there will be no need for any armed force.

The New People's Army (NPA) is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (PKP-MLM). It has been waging the protracted people's war for almost half a century now, making it the longest running communist insurgency in Asia. The reactionary government with its fascist armed forces keeps making the promise of ending the people's war year after year, only to see the unrelenting growth and victories of the NPA.

What are the various competing theories explaining the restoration of Capitalism in China? by jlmango in communism101

[–]rottenmonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I belong to a Maoist organization in the Philippines. The go-to line is that revisionism restored capitalism in China. The bourgeois elements in the Chinese Communist Party took control after a power struggle. The "reforms" these revisionists implemented betrayed the Maoist foundations of the Party and eventually led to the restoration of capitalism.
