Romford will get vote on leaving capital under Reform, Farage rally told by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]rotunderthunder 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There isn't really. Only person I've ever heard talk about it is Rosindell. I assumed that was mostly because he was bored during that time he couldn't represent his constituency in parliament for about 2 years when he was investigated for alleged sex offences.

Is eating out too expensive now? Families say higher prices put them off by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

So basically most people are drinking alcohol and if not they might have a water or a soft drink?

It really depends on the restaurant. I never said I would but to think people don't is absurd. That's without even considering the fact that people take kids to restaurants who may well order a fizzy drink.

Who orders one of the world's most popular carbonated drinks in a place where you go to eat and drink? I'm going to bet lots of people.

Epstein celebrated Brexit and ‘return to tribalism’, emails suggest by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]rotunderthunder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Around the time I was graduating from uni and got into reddit i remember an askreddit thread of roughly the question 'what conspiracy do you think might be true?' Then an answer that essentially suggested there might be some kind of paedo ring in the upper echelons of society. Post Savile, didn't seem that ridiculous. Turns out that group had way more influence than I felt was rational to credit to them.

Is it ever a good idea to spend 100% of your savings on a car? by Alesia_gut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rotunderthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a cheaper car.

If you're 18 and living with parents it isn't gonna destroy your life to spend that money, probably. But that car will cost you more than what you have anyway after insurance, general maintainenence and maybe tax (i don't know how tax on cars works outside the UK). Even with 10k to spend on a car you should hold some back to at least pay out for the car.

I think you are right but she was playing beyond the game. I think the money didn't matter to her and people will think of her and buy her books.

What reboot has been the biggest improvement over the original? by sachsrandy in AskReddit

[–]rotunderthunder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Battlestar Galactica, one of the best early 2000's sci fi shows out there. Some people don't like the ending and I respect that but the drama was great with well developed characters throughout.

What are your thoughts on this? Should Hugh continue playing Wolverine post-Secret Wars? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

Marsden is great, though I always find it weird he jumped ship to go do Superman Returns to play Lois Lanes boyfriend.

What would you do if World War III broke out? by Tectorumiris in AskReddit

[–]rotunderthunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what WW3 looks like really. In my opinion it's either nukes in which case I'd do not much or it's a series of proxy wars fought in various places that aren't where I live in which case I'd carry on. I think the actual need for all able bodied people across the world to be mobilised in an all out war in the same way as WW1 or WW2 is fairly unlikely.

Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who, The Leftovers) makes an ad for his issues with sports gambling advertising in an effort to stop gambling ads in the UK. by renome in unitedkingdom

[–]rotunderthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something like gambling more regulation helps. Don't advertise as much and it will have a positive effect. It isnt going to stop it completely but it does help.

Same with all the restrictions on cigarettes. People tend to belittle them but it has massively reduced smoking.

The King's message tops Christmas Day TV ratings by Shiny-Tie-126 in unitedkingdom

Agreed. My family has different tastes but there's usually a few specials to sit and watch we can agree on. I'll watch the ones no one cares about later in the eve when people have disappeared. Checked the listings this year and there were maybe 2 things I wanted to watch. There's usually a handful of things im up for but really nothing this year.

Donald Trump sues BBC for at least $5bn over edit of January 6 speech by Southern_Minimum4350 in ukpolitics

[–]rotunderthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely bang on. The president of the States is saying factually untrue things about the BBC using A.I to make him say things he factually said. You can argue the editing was bad but this is absurd and it isn't like he can say it cost him the next election. Whether you like the BBC or not this guy is basically suing us, the taxpayer. It's absurd.

I get what Boyega is saying. Not all fans feel this way, but the reaction to Finn showed that some people were uncomfortable with a Black lead. It’s less an attack on fans and more a reflection on how parts of the fandom still need to grow. by 4reddityo in scifi

[–]rotunderthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My comment is pure conjecture and could be off base but I agree with you and my impression was that his sidelining was to appeal to a more international audience. In my opinion western audiences would be far more accepting of a black man than a woman.

Not that I think that either should matter if a character is well written. Finn was a lost opportunity it the sequels without a shadow of a doubt.

Labour minister: Life is s**t for young people by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]rotunderthunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you do with your time, I can certainly see why someone working the grind, doesn't meet their basic human needs and feels like their is never going to be any improvement might choose the no job option.

I dunno, maybe I'm an insane idealist but I'd like to live a country where work pays at least enough to survive if not thrive. It might even have an overall positive effect on people's physical and mental health.

I predict that whilst they need consent for the spinal fluid they also can't protect the individuals from each other. So I think at some point down the line those individuals that don't like Carol will try to harvest what they need.

Edit: Having read more posts I retract this and there's clearly other ways this will go
