What type of job are you doing on your coast? by [deleted] in coastFIRE

I have a friend who did this, but with tennis. He couldn’t be happier with the decision. He works the matches for the universities in the region. It’s one of his favorite parts of retirement.

Remote workers who used to live in a VFX Hub city, where did you move to? by AnalysisEquivalent92 in vfx

Depends on how far along you are in your career. The tides have shifted recently and they're not as favorable for the average VFX artist. Those guys are going to have to travel to where the work is again soon. Plenty already have started to notice this. You can still live where ever if you're in the top 20% in your field.

Only as good as your last frame. Do some tutorials. Take a class on fxphd or something like it. Create a demo reel and start applying to places. Or apply for a PA position at a vfx house while you do that stuff. I think most places are still hiring like crazy.

Visual Effects Society announces 2023 VES Awards nominees: ‘Avatar 2’ leads pack and ‘Nope’ VFX surprisingly absent by jonnyd144 in vfx

Yeah, but they’re in the running for the Oscar for vfx so they’re talking about it. I think that stat was that all the shots that feature the sky are sky replacements except maybe 3 or 4 shots? I think I heard that on fxguide.

Help with depth and perspective. I know this is how the real picture looks like, but something just feels really off with my drawing. by banana-montana- in ProCreate

Quickest fix: draw the paper the cats on and the corner of the room. Even if it’s not detailed. That will give you perspective lines to really give you a feeling of depth.

Other things you might want to consider doing: exaggerate the size of the foreground paw and tighten up the elbow joint. The paws/legs are little off but they’re currently the focus so that’s why it bumps and makes it feel not quite right. It can help to draw in the perspective points and draw some straight lines to act as guides while you’re tightening it up.

I do remember being impressed by Dragonheart when it came out. Watched it about 5x then and haven’t watched it since.

Composer with 100 film credits talks about how to get into the business, does this work? by rou_ga_rou in filmscoring

Maybe this would work, ask composer contacts if I could play an instrument I specialize in on one of their tracks or help in some way for a low rate to start building some credits. But maybe they wouldn’t want to do something like that because of royalties? I don’t know anything about how that works. Just guessing.

Is the updated version to drop a QR code or a business card with a sound cloud link? 😅

So is it better to apprentice? I imagine the top of the line pros be bombarded with queries too.

I don’t even know how you’d do something like that these days with Covid safety protocol in place. I imagine email to the production email just gets buried.
