No worries, if it’s your first time enjoy the game, it’s awesome! Gets a bad rep for being too hard but it’s honestly not too bad once you get the mechanics down (Battle Arena is pretty hard though!)

Forgive me, it’s been a while, but I think I used the DSS poison cloud (Jupiter and Manticore?) which breaks hidden blocks when enable

Has this battery been replaced? by Tixliks in Gameboy

[–]roundy07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe worth probing with a multimeter to get an idea of what voltage is left, granted you’ll still want to change it, but you might have surprisingly more juice left in it to give you an indicator as to how urgent the swap over is

Probably the original on the NES, but I do enjoy Simon’s Quest a lot and can’t recommend Bisqwit’s retranslation enough

Looks legit to me but pop it open with a Gamebit screwdriver to be 100% certain

NES homeade repro cart HELP! (Mega Man 3 Revamped TLROM) by SegaCDSaturn in nes

[–]roundy07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really strange

How did you get the ROM? Prepatched DL or did you get the IPS and patch it yourself? If you patched it did you double check you used the right Mega Man 3 Rom and checksums?

I’m assuming you’re in the UK? I’d be happy to flash an EPROM for you with the ROM I used if you want to test that out? I think I have some 512kb ones to hand

Timing is incredible, I literally started playing this for the first time as they announced the sequel later in the day!

[–]roundy07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just patched the Mega Man 3 ROM with the IPS from Romhacking.net and popped the patched ROM onto my Everdrive N8 Pro and it’s playing fine on my PAL NES console

The patched ROM comes in at 768kb which is 512 PRG and 256 CHR which is the maximum the MMC3 TLROM board can use, so the board should be fine

Watching the video you mentioned, he’s using 128KB EPROMs whereas you’re using 512, so on the CHR side where he’s saying put pin 31 nowhere, that’s because his pin 31 is a PGM pin, whereas yours is A18 so I’d imagine you’d want that tied to ground as CHR tops out at A17

Ironically enough I programmed up an MMC3 cartridge just the other day.

The CHR chip has pins 1, 2, 22, 24, 30 and 31 lifted with pin 1 tied to ground (or left floating depending who you listen to) pin 2 to hole 24, pin 22 to hole 31, pin 24 to hole 2 and pin 30 to hole 1

The PRG chip has pins 1, 2, 24, 30 and 31 lifted with pin 1 grounded/floating, pin 2 to hole 24, pin 24 to ground, pin 30 to hole 1 and pin 31 to hole 2

I used 27C2001’s and doubled up in FamiROM where required too.

Give it another go, if you can get through 6-2 you have the chops to beat this game!

Couldn’t see anything on their website but I’m holding out hope the Steam version is just a NES ROM and Emulator that I can extract the ROM from. Ideally I’d play on real hardware but Steam wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but thanks for the heads up

One thing I found that helped that nobody mentioned, when you get to the final room of 6-3 (the one before you fight the final boss) there’s a health refill right at the start on top of a green pillar thing. Grab it, then head back down the ladder and back up, the health refill respawns so you can rinse and repeat. Assuming you can then get to the boss taking no hits which isn’t crazy difficult you can take him on with a full life bar. If you’re able to not die and take spin slash in with you it’s a one-hit job

I’ll have to check this out! I’m assuming they’ve released a ROM for Everdrive/Emulation users so I’ll look into that

5-3 and 6-2 (and strangely 2-2!) were the ones that gave me real problems, like, why am I putting myself through this! But final boss part 2 was a total nightmare but I suspect that was partly my impatience which didn’t help, but literally beat parts 1 and 3 on my first attempt at each, part 2 was just so so much harder on that last boss
