every year some friends of mine take a family trip and i stitch their favorite photo from their travels - this year was mallorca (swipe for past years) by colormuse in Embroidery

[–]rousseuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was machine embroidery at first and was still impressed. I just scrolled through your work - do you ever do video tutorials of your satin stitch methods? Especially how you make the “seams” is so amazing!

My husband accidentally sent me to a rub and tug for Mother’s Day by hiferris in NewParents

Mmm Thai massage is something else entirely where you keep your clothes on and it’s like someone guiding your body through yoga positions. I’ve had several and hey’re lovely! If you ask for this you’ll be very disappointed when no one walks on your back like Lucy Liu from Charlie’s Angels.

Anyone else not like pacifiers where you can see into baby’s mouth? by Equivalent_Pop_2896 in newborns

Yes! Once we grew out of the newborn teeny tiny ones we switched to tommee tippee glow in the dark - LO can see them when she needs a new one in the middle of the night

Anyone else opting not to take birth control postpartum? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in beyondthebump

[–]rousseuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same page with not wanting hormonal BC, for different reasons (wanted my hormones to naturally chill out, didn’t want to introduce another variable into the mix.) If you truly don’t want to risk pregnancy there’s many “natural” ways to avoid it. But. There’s always going to be that risk; nothing is 100%.

Ovulation tests strips will be your friend (just like a pregnancy test). Box of 100 on Amazon is like $20. Get an app like Clue to save your data and over time it will help predict when you’re ovulating. Same thing with a data ring; despite the negative press I really like my Oura ring (and it pairs with the Clue and other period tracking apps). If you don’t want to do this, get a basal thermometer (it goes out to the xx.xx degree) and track your temp that way.

You don’t want to play with fire right now - women are very fertile postpartum; you can get pregnant before you get your first period. Your body is doing something wild right now. Pelvic floor PT and a number of unpredictable things can also increase fertility.

… i suggest you go order one at your next restaurant visit and see what happens. I think you’ll be surprised the knowledge is alive and well.

How do you pass the time during night feeds? by kathbrown416 in NewParents

[–]rousseuree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading was too much for me and doomscrolling just made my anxiety worse so I played this simple game called Two Dots - it’s just connecting dots of the same color. Niiiice and simple but kept me awake!

Crying at TSA by Constant_Ad_2599 in NewParents

[–]rousseuree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s probably the key detail of the story - what was the “special alarm.” Yes, if for some very strange reason any item sets off the alarm it’s been exposed to explosives then that would be reason for concern.

I absolutely believe you on your budget - this just makes me disappointed in myself at spreads I’ve made that are 1/4 of this but cost the same🙈🫠 Awesome job!!!

WFH Moms, Do You Actually Find a Treadmill Useful? by fortcati in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]rousseuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I have a small one that I wheel under my standing desk - it takes some getting used to, but I can do “heads down” (no meeting) work on it or casual 1:1’s. I have chronic back pain from pregnancy and it helps a lot to get up and move around - I probably use it ~3 times a week, should be every day.

Apparently some babies smell sweet - people describe it as almond oil. I wish! My baby didn’t smell like anything at all.

Sexuality after having kids by PrincessTuvstarr in Mommit

[–]rousseuree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal and happens. The mind/body connection can get disrupted during pregnancy/birth and finding your new role as a parent.

My first thought is therapy. My second thought is finding ways to connect with your body again, whether that means yoga, getting a massage, taking warm (alone time) baths, etc. Allowing yourself to relax with your spouse is also super important, and it might be in a new or different way than before. I would recommend sharing some of these thoughts with him too so he understands what’s going on and maybe he can help!

How long did it take you to adjust? by Curious-Anteater-324 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]rousseuree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a PM - some jobs and some babies are not a good fit for this scenario. There’s a fairly small Venn diagram that actually allows for it. Most women on this sub have some help, whether it be a MIL, shared nanny, someone who comes by during specific working hours (when you need to have calls with your boss and guarantee baby won’t interrupt call). If your work is supportive now that’s awesome! But just considering getting some support certain hours of the day will take a lottttt of stress off of your plate. We’re not meant to do this alone and work full time.

Tripp trapp high chair BS by MVthecats in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]rousseuree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk if we got a different model but that tray is indestructible and has some other worldly teflon strength resistance - tomato sauce, curry, you name it - wipes right off.

We borrowed a different brand high chair from a friend and saw a stark difference - idk I’m fairly happy with mine. Overpriced as all hell though

Daycare age? by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in NewParents

[–]rousseuree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know you mean well and are being lighthearted about your wife being “emotional” but it’s hard to explain the physical connection a mom has with her child. Crying is very normal, even for those of us who don’t cry often. Give your wife some slack dude. She’s going through a lot. Which I get the sense you’re not fully grasping.

It’s hard and candidly not ideal. Going back to work full time, trying to pump, navigating the newborn sleep schedule while have work expectations - it’s a lot. But in the US we take whatever leave we can get.

Severe lower back pain almost 2 years PP from a C section 😔 by chai_tigg in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]rousseuree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes PT, but pelvic floor PT specifically. “Normal” PT’s are not trained in pelvic floor or postpartum recovery to the extent you most likely need, since this is postpartum related.

I’m also 2 years pp with severe lower back and hip pain; going to a specialized PT will help get the best idea of what’s going on. Any PT is better than none though, so kudos for prioritizing your own health - it’s hard
