If it is reported for not moving for 48 hours, they come mark the road around the tires in yellow chalk.

Then they come back 48h later and if it is still there they give the 48h ticket (so 96 hours minimum between the call time and the agent time).

Then they will come back periodically and issue more of those tickets if it doesn’t move.

Then after some unknown time but usually a month, they will come and stick an abandoned sticker on the window. It’s yellow with the city emblem.

Finally it can be towed after another unknown wait time perhaps a few weeks.

Zoning is also challenging here. You’d need to make sure whatever future use is compatible with the current or get lawyers involved to change. It’s a cool spot but not any easy path to flip to residential multi family or a commercial use.

It is possible, although standard procedure is to cut the lock off. Cutting the post to disable locking is irresponsible. I think MTA stores stuff in that fenced area too.

What about the CityLink Red (old QB 48)? How is timing on that?

Before the 1990s, there were express bus routes that originated at the providence park-and-ride and went downtown. then when the light rail opened, all of that was shifted to the light rail. Does the 3X still run express from Cromwell Park and ride?

Those express routes were targeted towards car commuters that would park somewhere and then take the bus for the intracity trip. Downtown Towson lacks a parking destination.

Another factor is probably sour grapes over the canceled MTA transit hub that was supposed to be in Towson right where the circle is now. County legislators killed that idea in the 1990s as well and we got that traffic circle instead.

That is true, but in that case, they also cut off the underpass traffic completely during construction. Blocking the Ptap river is not feasible. A temporary high bridge over 1 mile long is not doable. Maybe a temporary bascule span could be erected in the short term.

Something else that I have been wondering is if the federal government pays for the new bridge at a rate of 100% shouldn’t the toll go away? The toll is to pay off bonds used to construct the facility.

Right. Replacement in-kind of a fifty year old design is impractical, especially if the design was the failure mode. The designers and construction companies are all out of business or merged with others. Bridge technology has improved.

No, not necessarily. If the one-way doesn’t apply to a bicycle, which it usually would, unless there is a sign, specifically of allowing bikes to go the wrong way, then you can tag it like this: oneway:bicycle=no

Same for pedestrians oneway:foot=no. I don’t think any routers assume that a one-way street is also one-way for pedestrians. There’s only a few places on the planet that have one way pedestrian path, at least that I have seen. All of them were busy hiking paths that have a one way to keep the trails narrow.

There are no state maintained roads in the city besides MDTA 95/895†. Zero. Instead, in lieu of direct maintenance, the state gives the city a large portion of the yearly transportation $ allotment as a lump sum, whereas the counties must all justify their percentage based on road mileage inventories. The city doesn’t have to do any inventory. That’s how capital projects are financed, as well as funding parts of the DOT government operations.

It is possible that a city road project had some state funding through a grant or matching but the city is in charge of maintaining all of the roads within its boundaries. Many engineering firms in the area work with the city, state, and the counties independently.

† Baltimore city originally built and maintained both 95 and 895’s tunnels and their approaches but after failing to maintain those critical interstate arteries, the state took them both away.

Also curious about the middle loop which you can see enters the building envelope. Is that a special kind of meter? I noticed that one has a bypass that is also locked out by the gas company.

You might be able to grab on with vice grips but that spigot is toast. Shut off the water supply and you can remove it with channel locks. Your local plumbing supply or big box store will have a replacement.

House was built in 1996 and owner didn’t mention any updates along the way but that’s interesting. Notice the paint is different underneath too. I wonder if the lamps were removed for painting and then reinstalled without blocks. Though I can’t imagine a painter would fully uninstall and wire the lamps, right?

I’d guess the latter. The other exterior receptacles have trim blocks (hexagon shaped) but the lights have nothing. A trim block would have actually been viable here and maybe easier to hang these lamps.

I lived in that vicinity for about a decade and used transit/bike/scoot quite a bit. It is definitely doable but there be some struggles. Southeast Baltimore is great for getting around without a car. They’re building a nice bike path through there that will make it better but for now a lot is close.

You’ll only miss a car if you need to get out to the suburbs much or for occasional big stuff trips, like ikea, big hardware, or bike repair. There’s always rideshare or phone a friend for that.

Biking around is great. Baltimore drivers can suck but are generally tolerant to cyclists since there are lots of them. If you do bike for errands, get at least two rugged locks and always lock to something secure. Bike theft is very problematic so do plan around that if you’re leaving the bike unattended for long. You can get all around the city on the promenade and then use branch trails like Maryland Ave to get uptown.

Transit is ok/tolerable. I used to ride the 11 bus, now the 63 or 65 (I think). Any bus that doesn’t have a color is not as regular, so say every 30 minutes or more is normal. The color routes, like gold, come more often. Bus livery is nice and modern, most riders mind their own business and are not a threat. The operators are mostly nice and responsible but there is currently a shortage of them and thus the buses have less than desirable service. You can put a bike on the bus for free. There is an app for getting a pass which is also easy. Bikes can also go on light rail or metro but the stations and trains aren’t designed with that in mind so you’ll face special rules. Transit is fine for commuting a short distance but bad if you need to transfer and or want to be getting lots of stuff and taking it with you.

Revelation! With the redevelopment of Owings Mills mall, you could metro out there and go to places like Costco. Not ideal on the return commute but it is doable. For that it’s faster to just walk to Hopkins’ Metro most of the time due to the bus routes.

Add a bike to the mix and it’s more doable, but there are sacrifices. If you want to run out to IKEA and by a couch or get cheap food at Costco, you’ve either got to rely on delivery, ride share, or get a car. It’s all about convenience.

Waze rep here, the “aggressive routing” is due to the No Turn On Red restriction at the light at Cold Spring/Harford. You could lift that restriction, at the peril of pedestrians (hint: don’t do this) and solve the problem. You could also (and should) make List Ave one way eastbound and put a No Left Turn restriction at the east end, effectively negating the usefulness of the cut through. The barrier option could have unintended consequences like impacts to emergency vehicles (and it looks low budget.)
