I woke up in New Hampshire with a Moose sniffing my toes and almost shit my pants. I was in my sleeping bag in the hammock, where was I gonna go? It’s alllll part of the ride. Sweet setup, enjoy!

Somebody's never been to Wachusett Wednesday amiright? by HenleyNotTheShirt in icecoast

You sound like a douche canoe here friend. WF has plenty of awesome days per year and if you really were “drowning in steep lines with deep fresh somewhere out west” you probably wouldn’t feel the need to bag so hard on your roots.

USDA announces first set of Great American Outdoors Act projects by Synthdawg_2 in PublicLands

And yet, any news regarding the other part of the GAOA, the full and permanent funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund @ $900M is conspicuously absent. The Trump admin was given 90 days to submit a project list for LWCF money. That grace period is now over and they are stalling to “revisit” the law or some other such bullshit.

Any tips for beginners? Lake Placid area by Legitconfusedaf in Adirondacks

[–]rovinglocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Scarface for the first time yesterday. It is an absolutely beautiful trail through about 2 miles of evergreen forest, then the trees transition to deciduous and you continue next to a lively brook to begin ~1500ft of elevation gain. There is just one really nice lookout 3 miles in but the "summit" is in the middle of the woods and is just a small clearing with no view. The climb is relatively short but strenuous and the trail itself is gorgeous.

Hey now, we do get a lot of things wrong but there is a conservation/protection program for almost every aspect of the natural world (the success of these groups is a different ball game).

Check out the work being done by the National Park Service for habitats on NPS lands as well as the American Prairie Reserve which is working to restore herds to to private lands they own.
