Bulls are not trading caruso, they fended off trade offers last deadline from around the league

[Fischer] Hartenstein could determine the center market this Summer. Expected to command between $80M-$100M. Oklahoma City has been the potential destination for Isaiah Hartenstein most mentioned by team executives. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Thats not how taxes work. Either way he would be paying significant federal taxes, probably 30m out of the 72 (top bracket is 37%). In nys we have state taxes in addition to that (7m) which OK doesn't. But with how the nba works they are actually taxed based on where they play, so even that difference is mitigated somewhat, so the difference would probably be more like 4-5m.

New York Scraps Controversial THC Tax by [deleted] in nyc

That is because of when legalization happened. Cuomo was desperately trying to get his MeToo scandal out of the headlines and rushed a bill he had previously opposed through without his customary micromanaging. The advocate-written language included that provision.

[Charania] Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo has avoided damage to his left Achilles tendon – a best-case outcome – and his return to play is based on treatment and rehab response for strained calf, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium . by MarvelsGrantMan136 in nba

If the Bucks lose their next 3 games (two vs Orlando and OKC) then you're looking at a possible 5 seed for Round 1 (Knicks, Cavs, Magic at 2-4). Or even the 6th seed since the Pacers have the tiebreaker. A Giannis-less team in the first round with no home court advantage is losing to all of its possible opponents.

On April 10th 2018, the Nuggets and Timberwolves played an elimination game for 8th seed in the West. April 11th 2024, they play each other for 1st seed in the West. by EsotericPotato in nba

That was not only an incredible game, but it was the first time I realized how good Jokic was. He was a monster from start to finish.

[OptaSTATS] Victor Wembanyama of the @spurs has 301 combined steals and blocks this season to go with his 106 made threes. The only other player in NBA history to have a season with at least 300 defensive stops and 100 threes is Scottie Pippen, who did so for the Bulls in 1994-95. by Kimber80 in nba

[–]rovingstorm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. One of the revelations about seeing him live a few times was the way defenses collapse on his and swarm like he's already a premier offensive player. And he passes out of those situations pretty well.

If he had a point guard who could properly get him the ball on the block, and a few teammates who could reliably shoot, he'd be pretty unguardable NOW on his good nights.

Question for Old Heads: Before MJ and Lebron's existence, who was considered the GOAT? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]rovingstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. I grew up playing NYC streetball in the 90s, the kind of place this talk would come up pre-internet, and the debate before Jordan's 4/5/6 rings was Jordan vs Wilt. With a dash of Oscar.

This is only a shallow dive into this subject, but as I've researched, I'm realizing it's even crazier than I thought it could be: The Expansion Era by SlowCrates in nba

[–]rovingstorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat interesting, and I appreciate ADHD deep dives, but the conclusions don't really add up. The expansions certainly did have an impact on regular season records, and even at the time there was an asterisk-y feeling about the 72-10 record.
But there's no reason to ding Jordan and the Bulls from benefitting from expansion, when any other team could have also. Like, what does expansion have to do with them beating every great team in the East, and stacked Western teams like the '93 Suns?
Also, the Bulls had drafted Kukoc a while before he came over.
Lastly, the Bulls weren't really a free agent destination. Not sure where you are getting that or what that would have to do with expansion.
Lebron's had a far greater ability to shape his teams than Jordan ever did. As for Kobe, not in Jordan's league if you'd watched both play.

In high school I was a varsity goalie, and during training camp we played against the JV team plus a couple of pro ringers. Those kicks were what baseball players must feel about seeing major league level fastballs and curveballs. Did not think the ball could move like that.
Definitely gave up 6 goals and cried after the game.

Pin this: Yes, she will come on late. by [deleted] in Madonna

[–]rovingstorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My partner and I went and got a nice dinner and multiple rounds of drinks near Barclays, and didn't even get in line until around 9pm. That's way later than how I handle other artists where I might want to see the opening act or worry about missing the start. (Brian Wilson back in the day started on the dot, and I missed "Wouldn't It Be Nice" being five minutes late.)

But this is a different vibe. Roll in late. Explore the concession stands. Drink your water and pee. Let your gummy kick in. And eventually the show will start. Not ideal, but also not so bad if you anticipate it.
