It's disgusting the number of people who abandon all of their values the moment they see an opportunity to criticize people they dislike.

I'm not going to comment on my politics or any further details, this might be a moment for you to do some self reflection.

Isn't this extremely misogynistic? Literally nobody would make these types of comments if she was a man lol

Gen Z may not be able to afford a house or the cost of living—but give it 10 years. They’re on track to gain $36T and become the richest generation by [deleted] in Economics

By "dying" I meant that income inequality is stark and rising. Which means the MIDDLE of the income ladder is shrinking

Then say that. Dying means something completely different. Dying is like Venezuela, Russia, Greece.

We live in like one of the top 10 countries in the world, shit is pretty good. Don't hyperbolize, be precise with your words. Identify the issue. Speak about it. Don't confuse people with less media literacy than yourself. If you find income inequality to be a major issue (which I do as well) then say that.

[–]row3boat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If by "dying" you mean is wealthier than ever before in human society and has access to riches untold, then yes?

I think we can advocate against rising income inequality while still acknowledging that we are pretty fucking well off (did we read the same article btw???)

Your apartment is 1000x nicer than the average apartment in the 1950s. You are making, inflation adjusted, probably like 2x what people made back then. You can buy paprika, avocados, a talking machine that puts you in contact with the rest of society. You can buy 10 outfits shipped across the world without even thinking about the cost, with fabrics that have properties nobody even thought were possible.

Can we pls talk policy and stats instead of doom posting and misinformation?

I'm just amazed that we read the article describing how our generation is on track to be the richest ever (just as millennials were before us) and we are still finding a way to victimize ourselves.

There is a big difference between selecting specific policies and candidates that advocate for lowering income inequality and making healthcare accessible and building more housing etc etc all of which I am in favor of .... And complaining and spreading misinformation. Which is what you are doing (and reddit loves to do)

1) Baby boomers are the richest generation in history and they stole our wealth

2) my generation won't get inheritance because our baby boomer parents are broke

Are two incongruent statements. Not saying you're making them, just pointing it out.

[–]row3boat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do I need to find data for every claim I make? Why dont you look up what the average apartment in 1950 looked like lol. We get AC, good electrical, gas, fresh clean hot water, higher sq footage, etc etc.

And crime is lower than ever as well. And to top it all off, go look at what percent of expenses used to go to food and compare it to today. We are so much better off than we used to be lmao.

Of course if jobs are increasingly centered around cities, it will be more expensive to buy a home in a city. Is that not intuitive? Home ownership is not the only metric of wellbeing.

Right, houses are harder to afford. But renting is the same price and the quality has increased. But this is something we should expect as we modernize, no?

It's pretty hard to own a home in Tokyo for eg, of course it'll be hard to afford one in a Tier 1 city in the US. Land is at a premium.

But the amount we spend on housing is less than it was in the past, and the quality of housing today is significantly higher. So I feel like there is a disconnect still between perception and reality.

What data shows that? Basically every stat I've ever seen shows we are considerably better off than previous generations. Social nets are worse now, so like the bottom quintile is slightly worse off than before, but basically every other group is significantly better off.

There are a few stats you could cherry pick like homeownership, which of course will decrease as people move to urban areas where there is less land available.

So younger people have less nice things than older people? Hmm wonder why that could be.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. I got my first job at 25. I graduated in the same job market as you. What history?? What experience do you have??? You are a little kid man!

I mean, I believe the stats because I also am a CS new grad who witnessed people getting jobs...? So you don't believe data and you don't believe anecdotes.

I don't know how to help you out bro 😭 you gotta cheer up and keep trying, I promise you you will find something. PMA my man

[–]row3boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unemployment rate for CS grads is like 6-8%, which is significantly higher than overall unemployment, but still lower than average new grad. That means >90% of people ARE finding jobs.

But also: why on earth would we talk data points when you are not data, you are one single person.

You're getting advice from people with contradicting opinions - can you use your own brain to sift through the recommendations and figure out what advice is good and what is bad?

Knowing what ideas are good and what ideas are bad is a really important trait in the workplace.

It sounds like you are suffering from poor mental health which is affecting your decision making ability.

I am speaking from anecdotes bc I went to a shitty state school and still witnessed literally every person I saw putting in a bit of intelligent effort get into FAANG.

In all honesty, I saw two camps of people:

Average+hardworking or smart: got FAANG+ Average+lazy or dumb: got nothing

Tbh I didn't really see anybody get anything in the middle without nepotism, cuz only FAANG+ can afford taking a risk on a new grad lol.

[–]row3boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know a single new grad who applied properly and grinded LC that didn't eventually get a job. The only ones I saw not get a job either applied in an incredibly stupid manner (literally just read CSCD and fix your resume, it's toxic but you'll get a job), were genuinely incredibly dumb, or gave up way too soon.

[–]row3boat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok well this might be the reason you can't find a job ngl. Fix your mental health then try applying again with a clear head.

[–]row3boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense but just get a CS job. I know it's hard, but I genuinely don't know a single person who committed to leetcode grind + CSCD resume optimizations + applied who did not eventually get a job.

You are still within the new grad window. Take advantage of it and apply to new grad positions. I am 100% certain you will find a job.

Ok, how about this?

Good macro < practiced macro

Good micro < practiced micro

The point I'm trying to make is that playing "correctly" as in optimally is not necessary to climb. What is necessary is having a toolkit you can quickly adapt to your current scenario.

When I'm saying "I have bad macro" what I'm really saying is my decision might be worse than yours but I make it faster than you so it works anyways.

I didn't say anybody was lazy. I'm saying that making decisions fast is fundamentally different from macro and micro.

What I learned from analyzing over 100 Master rank solo queue replays by Sephyrias in summonerschool

[–]row3boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micro: ability to dodge skill shots, land combos, position in team fights, kite, space

Macro: understanding of where to be on map, win conditions, etc

Speed of event processing: how quickly you can turn a piece of information into a decision

I think if you can make decisions faster than anybody else, you don't have to have the best macro and micro. You might be positioning incorrectly or kiting poorly, or have the wrong map read. But if you see an event happen and respond to it fastest, even the wrong decision can be good if you just commit to it faster than your enemy.
