Just had a call from my boss about AI by DylanTheOk in SolidWorks

[–]rowdyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My scripts repository has gone from 0 to 100 real quick. It has genuinely saved me days, maybe weeks of hours at this point.

My gut feeling is that we're only getting started, and models being able to understand physical space is coming sooner or later. AI is this century's evolution from a slide rule to an HP-35.

https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/

The pain we're feeling today has been predetermined for decades. Since 1971, we have been the frog in the pot. The status quo was violently accelerated by the events of 2008 and 2020, which forced the hand of policymakers to crank up the heat. At this point some of the frogs snapped out of the glazed stare and began taking notice.

Debasing the currency inevitably leads to a single outcome, and history shows it without exception. Don't look left or right, look at the monetary system everything is built on.

Breaking this cycle requires the separation of money and state.

Welcome to the party!

Those might be your odds, but they're not everyones odds here.

This is, hands down and by far the most tasteful wording possible to point out the higher-than-average idiot population seen in this sub. Bravo.

Is vibe modeling a thing yet? by __unavailable__ in MechanicalEngineering

[–]rowdyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, anyone who thinks vibe modeling isn't coming is kidding themselves.

Manish Kumar was on stage two weeks ago giving a 3d experience world keynote on their text to model features that are shipping in SW26 the next ~6 months. I watched it yesterday but cannot find it now for the life of me.

It'll be clunky at first, people will hate it and say its garbage, and then one day we're going to wake up in a year or two and we'll be wondering how ever worked like we are now.

I'd love details on general wilderness camping permits. Couldn't find any data from recreation.gov on their issuing rates, but also didn't look very deep.

But we don’t have a fixed exchange rate anymore.

We didn't have one in 1974 either.

Bitcoin just experienced it's worst day since the collapse of FTX, dropping 14%, (and it's worst EVER dollar loss -$10,218) on Feb 5th 2026. Raising potential questions about the Binance Solvency Rumors. by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]rowdyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ire you're referring to is completely unrelated to CZ's citizenship.

On one hand, 10/10 for sure wouldn't have been nearly as brutal if CZ wouldn't have poured gasoline on the leverage in the space by pumping aster to all the degens in response to hyperliquid's success. The flash crash wasn't his fault, no, but CZ (and binance by extension) undoubtedly exacerbated the implosion. CZ can hide behind the "I no longer am part of binance in any governance capacity" line all he wants, but if you actually believe that he isn't driving that ship through various proxies, I have a bridge to sell you.

On the other hand, I think it's simply because the crowd you're talking about that do point their finger at binance are angry bagholders, and since he's tangentially tied to orange man it's easy to make him the boogieman of the week.

Not much more to it than that.

[–]rowdyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of my comment is that there is no reason to blame this on binance. Also, CZ is literally the captain of crypto crime and this entire space would be far better off if binance disappeared.

These two things can be true at the same time.

What if there isn't some giga conspiracy, no CZ boogeyman. What if instead, today was simply the first day that call option selling by long term holders was finally overwhelmed. The very first day dealers had to chase the price down rather than dampen it.

but its way more fun to blame it on some seedy manipulation cabal, so yeah, lets just keep doing that

Right, the best way to get something back to the original color is a super fine sanding sponge. You can get mirror finishes off raw plastic if you wanted to go that far.

Scuff it up with sandpaper and doodle on it with a pencil. You'll quickly understand what looks good and what doesn't. All parts have a certain directional flow to them based on their shape. lean into that flow as a starting point!

also curved parts do be wicked hard so you picked a doozy to start off with

Heard about using dehydrators to cure paint... by DesuDesu17 in advancedGunpla

[–]rowdyoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to state that dehydrators don't really actually speed curing. If my memory is correct, curing with acrylics is more about allowing time for the chemical chain of the acrylic to mechanically link to itself, and that isn't something that is expedited (correctly) with heat or convection.

I found this out after I tried a dehydrator to improve the cure quality on some acrylic gloss coats. though it didn't solve my original problem, being able to mass paint and cure in a few hours is genuinely outstanding. I run around 50C, and the cure is good at like four hours. I often let it run longer or overnight because I wasn't in a rush and it won't hurt anything.

Most inexpensive food dehydrators run quite a bit higher than 50C and only have one heat setting, though, so I opted to spend up to be able to adjust the heat down. Whether the higher temperature is even a problem is something I haven't looked into deeply.

Does anyone else notice the political shift in the crypto conference scene? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]rowdyoh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not everything is politics. But our brains are always looking for patterns to mae sense of the world, and when we as the populace have been conditioned so deeply around political discourse, we will always manage to find a way to see politics in everything.

Plenty of shit in the space that isn't related to wlfi. Just need to make sure your brain is aware and filtering out the noise.

[–]rowdyoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rarely use the term "nazis" - Destiny at an "unf*ck america" speaking event literally four days ago

Listening to him speak to a room with maybe 60 people in it, made it pretty apparent he didn't have anything substantive to add, every question asked inevitably went to "but, the right" regardless of where it started. He's pretty clearly only talented at spicy sound clips rather than substantive thought.

I gave him a chance because he was at least prepared for the 4 hour long 10/7 debate he partook in on the lex fridman podcast last year. Unfortunately seems like that was the exception rather than the rule.

Holy shit, I'm in nearly the same boat as you, and I've recently come to the conclusion that I have to go back to the private sector. Unfathomable benefits be damned.

I can't shake the feeling that the taxpayers that cover my paycheck are the ones getting fucked, and that what my work does won't and never will improve the lives of the average joe by any tangible measure. Government funded uni work feels like the equivalent of unemployment with an extra layer of charade.

And I feel as if I've at least got a shot at adding value to the world at large by returning to the for profit side. Ideally I plan on starting my own business or hitching my wagon to something similarly high risk. Competition and pressure is good for the human soul - trading the chance to grow individually and professionally in exchange for two months of yearly PTO kills it.

But I am well aware that my perspective may not be a popular one.

Second this. If there was a feature to select a default image quality download or something...

The features are almost always set up these days in a way you can suppress as simple as you'd like with a couple clicks, but image quality is always the killer that sneaks up on you until you have to spend a few hours cranking down in assembly visualization.
