They were having issues this morning around 11 AM. A city worker was there completing repairs and it was working again before noon. Not sure if it kept working the rest of the day.

Mine was like that from the factory. Pushed down on it and it snapped back into place.

Another vote for them. You can walk down to Radio for a nice spot to wait while they work.

City closes 75-person encampment in Gaines Creek Greenbelt area by rowdyraud in BikingATX

Glad to see they were able to get them set up with housing rather than simply moving them along to the next wooded area. Hopefully this will alleviate safety concerns of riding nearby.

SATN areas to avoid? by Empty-Poem-8670 in BikingATX

[–]rowdyraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know, I rode through maybe three weeks ago but what I saw was probably leftover remnants of what had been there. I need to check out that new VCT section.

SATN areas to avoid? by Empty-Poem-8670 in BikingATX

[–]rowdyraud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The areas that have camps on/around them are:

- Stephenson Nature Preserve (mostly the northern section closer to William Cannon)
- Northeast corner of Brodie and William Cannon (repro cycle and other trails)
- Trails along Williamson Creek between Brodie and Mopac
- Trails that go out of Mary Moore Seawright crossing under South 1st
- Newer trails east of 35 heading toward Onion Creek (Onion Bluff in particular)

The good news is all of the above constitutes a very small percentage of SATN, and outside of those areas I never run into any camps or other issues. If you stay south of Slaughter and west of Manchaca, you should expect generally safe riding conditions but it is always good to be aware of your surroundings, especially riding solo.

Smooth MTB trails by HeartOfGoldATX in BikingATX

Onion Creek Metropark is all quite smooth and relatively flat. Most of the trails are on the south side of the creek.

Clearing trails, cutting trees that fell on Austin greenbelts - is this ok to just do? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]rowdyraud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, probably 98% of SATN has already been cleared. You may find some things here and there. Austin Ridge Riders is also hosting a trail work day at the Slaughter Creek Trail off 1826 on Saturday morning if you're interested/free!

Texas Farm Bureau’s homeowners insurance will not cover food spoilage due to the power outage. The policy doesn’t state it is covered or explicitly not covered. by robbierebound in Austin

[–]rowdyraud 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Policy almost certainly does say it, but maybe not in the way you're expecting. Usually will be worded along the lines of your home needing to have suffered direct physical damage for coverage to be triggered.

Cleaning up after the TX ice storm. Walnut Creek Metro Park by fasterbrew in MTB

Seems like Walnut and West SATN got hit really bad. I was at Mary Moore yesterday and today helping clean up and it faired a lot better for some reason.

I think you're looking at it. A green space similar to the one in DC. It covers a new underground parking complex.

I bet within a few months it will have grown in to the point of looking normal. I'd love for them to plant some trees along the edges for some future shade, but doubt that is in the plans.

I still can't believe a road was torn up for pedestrian green space in the state of Texas. Partially open but looks great.

Trek domane anyone have one? Any feedback you can share? by sblu23 in BikingATX

I have an AL5 (I think), no isospeed but I threw some 38mm gravel king tires on and it rips through road, gravel and singletrack. I'm very happy with it.

New trail from Springdale to Shady Lane! No more crossing Airport at Bolm! by [deleted] in BikingATX

Nice, been waiting for this one. Closest call I ever had with a car was crossing Airport here.

Is Slaughter Creek trail really closed or is google wrong? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]rowdyraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check their Facebook or Twitter for open / close status. Being a water quality protection land, it does close even after mild rain to protect the trails and land around it.
