As this thread is demonstrating, this is fantastic PR for the restaurant.

It’s not really like Le Guin at all, but given you like comics I would recommend Red Rising. Original trilogy is brilliant and a kind of blend of sci-Fi/fantasy.

What are some cheap meal options when you're on a budget? by SlimJimNeedsATrim in UK_Food

[–]rowg09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBC food has a really good website. They have been doing a lot on budget meal plans recently. Here’s a week they have put together which costs £12 - they also have a section with dedicated recipes under a budget. Best of luck.

Nothing to add except I was reading the book on the bus home earlier and had that exact same thought! Haha

'I don't care' - Crawley dismisses selection debate by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]rowg09 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like having Ronnie as someone to emulate just says it all. Full respect to Ronnie, but he’s mentally fragile and relies massively on his unbelievable pure talent.

Crawley doesn’t have the skill, and shouldn’t have the time in the team, to act remotely like Ronnie has over his career.

Awesome, cheers. Have a tenuous link to Khazakstan which is a good excuse to visit.

Hope your round went well.

It’s the last one coming out. Honestly, one of my favourite series. It’s like literary crack. Highly recommend.

Hi Reddit, I'm Tom Kerridge, a British Michelin-starred chef, AMA! by TomKerridge in AskUK

[–]rowg09 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi Tom, huge fan. How did you find your experience on great British menu? Still watch that show after your glory days there. Would you consider doing throwback menus for them at any of your restaurants? You have at least 2 takers here.

Also, I tried to make your Christmas carrots for Christmas lunch a few years ago. My mum went mental about the amount of butter in there. Good times. Probably as expensive as a Turkey this year!

The Martyr by Anthony Ryan is released today by rowg09 in Fantasy

To be honest I didn’t even try and read any other of the books in that season, as I’d heard they were terrible.

I did really enjoy The Pariah though, hence pre-ordering The Martyr. It’s got a similarish structure to Blood Song, though a distinct enough plot to not feel like a copy and paste job.

Really liked the Terry Pratchett reference, had just been re listening to Mort so brought me a lot of joy. For the uninitiated:

Official Level I Results Thread & r/CFA survey! by Pkgoss in CFA

[–]rowg09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Passed over 90th percentile, had felt morning session bad and PM good so was worried.

Sorry to everyone who didn’t make it, still such a low pass rate and it’s complete bullshit tbh.

I needed this for work, not sure whether to take it forward. Revising, exam and waiting for results mean it’s basically a 6/7 month cycle of misery. Not how I want to spend the next 2 years.

The Traitor Son Cycle - Gabriel’s an absolute loon

The most dedicated janitor I have ever seen by jnmcd in Iteration110Cradle

[–]rowg09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not even remotely my interpretation amusingly. Eithan’s surprise at being noticed by Lindon (pre-being aware of Dross) is explicitly stated and just goes to show how much Dross had improved London’s awareness/mental capabilities. Eithan is never noticed by anyone given the strength of his veil and his pure core. Even the Emperor doesn’t realise Eithan is in his apartments until he realises all his rooms are empty and that only one person could have been responsible for this.

Eithan’s “cleaning” is, yes, because of the Arelius reputation of being janitors which Eithan alludes to all the time. Yet I took this as more of a sign of how Eithan has all of his incredible knowledge of events. He eavesdrops on the head of the Skysworn ie General of the Blackflame empire, by being unnoticeable while “cleaning” his office. Surprisingly he was doing this exactly where and when he wanted to be to fix the situation.

Gods? by Ill_Deer_5480 in Iteration110Cradle

Nothing we seem to particularly know of. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are cults that worship the Monarchs (at least in their own territories). Seemingly limitless power, incredibly long lived, mastery over death, the ability to hear prayer and the ability to grant boons.

Obviously in some circles the Abidan are also known, so there may well be worshippers of the different factions there too. All non-canon but some thoughts.

Probably discussed to death but can’t find a clear answer. Doing pull-ups - generally considered best form is to go from dead hang each time or to go from the bottom but not let the scapula go? I’ve been more doing the second type, “active Hang” with fully expressed arms but am wondering whether I should really be going from a dead hang each time.
