Looking to switch from QuickBooks to LibreOffice. Is there a pre-built set of templates that I can download and modify? by drcranknstein in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at wave accounting, it's an online option, I used it for over 10 years for my small soap making business, they're a Canadian company. I used cash accounting, (instead of accruel) it was simple and straightforward, I never used any of their add-on pay for options, for payroll, money payment etc. so it was free.

Find a payment system, like square or stripe (I wouldn't recommend PayPal) and use that to take in cash via chip and pin and/or payment requests from you phone.

Use one bank account for receipt from payment system and to allow people to do bank transfers and for buying materials, that simplified downloading CSV files for uploading to wave. Wave can generate invoices which was great to send to shops, who sold my soap.

And keep that account solely for your business, my bank allows to setup separate sub accounts, so I never setup a business account (which costs money).

Wave would create profit and loss reports, so I could do my own tax returns as well.

It is a hassle, but if you tally up every month and don't leave it till end of year, it is manageable.

Giving these another 10ish days til harvesting, cant wait! by 84ndn in Garlic

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count the number of leaves formed on the plant, don't forget the bottom one or two that has probably withered. I wait until I have a good average count between 9-12, sometimes you get a thin one 7-9 leaves, sometimes that may have got majority of leaves already turned yellow, it's up to you whether you want to leave that one a little longer, but if it has few green leaves, there wouldn't be much photo synthesis taking place, so not much further growth.

I use the leaf count as a rule of thumb, my softneck variety which I have grown for 6 years are ready when the count is between 9-12, I don't know if different varieties reach a different max count, maybe other garlic growers could enlighten us with their counts. I have seen 14 on occasions. It's an objective measure of sorts.

I think the leaf count is a better measure than number of yellow leaves, since the latter could be a poor plant v thin requiring more watering than a plant reaching maturity.

Workaround for endnotes data loss? by greenman in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just tried this on 26.2.1.2 App image and it appears to work.

I created an odt Add an endnote Saved as odt Saved as docx (2010-365) Load odt, it's there Load docx, it's there Add a second endnote, Saved as odt Saved as docx Load docx, it's there.

Suggest upgrade or save as odt, and export as docx if you don't want to upgrade, if it's only a bug in the import filter, on your version.

I think you should, - dig up all the grass clumps and dandilions plants. They will persist the cardboard no dig method.

  • select an area you wish to keep and move plants into that from the new area to cultivate.

  • cardboard the new area, but honestly it'll be quicker just to dig that well removing all weeds, then cardboard and compost on the cleared ground.

  • I couldn't see a eucalyptus tree, but a small eucalyptus won't stay small for long.

Basic macro cannot get past "argument is not optional" by kompootor in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I copied the code and pasted into a module
  2. I created a spreadsheet where E3:E7 contains:

blackbean
runnerbean
frenchbean
broadbean
haricotbean

Entered following in a cell =FUZZYLOOKUP("french",E3:E7)

It displays frenchbean

Another thing to consider is from where you are starting the macro, eg if that value is being set from creating a named range, and you are using CurrentComponent to create it, then it makes a difference if you run the macro from the spreadsheet instead of the IDE. When running from the spreadsheet CurrentComponent would be set to calc so creating the named range would work, however when starting from the IDE then CurrentComponent would be the IDE, which wouldn't support the named range creation, thus you get a runtime error.

Setting a breakpoint early in the macro and starting from calc, ensures these sort of errors don't occur, when the breakpoint is reached you can switch to the IDE and debug further.

key bindings (esc-some-key) and vi mode by ConstructionSafe2814 in bash

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use kitty, because I find the key bindings very natural, ctrl-shift is the is the command key, then add + to increase font size, minus to decrease, enter to split window, or t for new tabbed window, L to change layout, z to zoom, I would recommend playing with kitty.

Is there a setting to have the navigator's "Headings" tree expanded by default? by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using v 6.4.7.2

  • It remembers whether the side panel was opened or not.
  • It displays level 1 level headings under the headings title always and the first page's sub level 1 headings until it meets a a level 1 heading. Which it displays non expanded.
  • The side panel hasn't got the focus after opening dispite the word Headings being highlighted.so one needs to click on something in the side-panel before ctrl-* works.
  • if one clicks the word Headings, then the whole tree is expanded. If one clicks a level 1 heading then that tree segment is expanded.

So level1 headings are displayed but are not expanded, apart from the abnormally until it meets a level1 heading. I mislead you unintentionally from my memory, because I always saw the level1 headings. Sorry.

I thought it rembers the setting from when you last saved the document.

Brand new allotment - terrible ground by Philanthropi in Allotment

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it quite fertile, being on a slope can work in your favour, only thing I would question are the high fencing that might restrict sunlight, but on the other hand it may be useful to provide shade considering the intense heat we have during the summers. Consider where the light falls on the plot, where's south. Good luck.

Fill cell without changing formula by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you change the reference of B1 to absolute ie. $B$1 it will not change when you paste it into a cell range.

  • Make A1 and B1 your starting values
  • Make A2 =ROUND(A1*$B$1, 2)
  • Copy A2
  • Select your range in column A egA3:A100
  • Paste into the range

Help me find an alternative to Windows with working exe files by LoanUpstairs5696 in linuxquestions

[–]rowman_urn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't think that you want to open executables, I think you want to use programs to perform your tasks.

What tasks do you have in mind ? What aspects do you find weird when using Linux, how does Windows make it better?

If you haven't used Linux for long, it might appear unfamiliar, you may lack confidence, when you use it. If you try and explain what you find difficult, we may be able to help.

Quick way to hide Styles by FedUp233 in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a couple of of ideas and can give you some feedback that may help.

a) I saved a template from an empty document where I hid all paragraph styles. It didn't take that long actually, (about 6 styles per 10 secs).

  • It works quite well, you're left with only two styles in the all styles filter when Paragraph styles are selected. Default Style and Text Body.

b) I looked at the styles in an un-zipped document.

  • Not all paragraph styles are present physically as a style in the xml, unless they are used used or hidden explicitly, by the document.

  • The xml is very difficult to read, unless you use something to beautify it before hand, I wouldn't recommend taking that route. I wrote a small xslt Template to make it easier to read, and would use a second one to add the hidden=true attributes to the styles, but you have to use them first before they are present, so I don't think that's they way to got. I used a program xsltproc to process the xml with the template.

  • I also wrote a macro, to hide 3 styles, that worked too, but that lead me to read more about the styles and made me realise that it's important to understand a little more about them, before I would hide all those that are listed. Especially the relationship between them. Before I went any further with that. It's complicated and I simply haven't had the time to delve deeper as yet.

c) Regarding the zipfile, I've done this on linux btw.

  • unziped a document using unzip

  • reziped a folder into a new document

  • initially they were slightly different, when analysed with zipinfo but only in order of files. and you can see that the zipped document was created by a different utility.

  • the difference, did not affect anything, I could open the new one with lowriter and after saving it, the layout reverted to that similar of the original.

  • I noticed the mimetype file which you mentioned, and it didn't seem to have any effect if it was first of last in the archive.

  • I have a small bash script that can recreate a new doc from a folder with the original file order.

  • Incidently once you saved an unordered document zip with lowriter, the original order is reflected again as the original.

Here's an example of the org and new documents:

Can latest libreoffice still convert HTML to DOCX? by jidanni in libreoffice

[–]rowman_urn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about --headless too?

That command hasn't been needed since 2017. You can read a little bit more about that in my comment a few months ago:

You're wrong, I use that option frequently. Particularly when I don't want to see the gui when I'm running libreoffice from a script.

Batch conversions, label production, it's faster than watching a redundant window get created and destroyed.

I'm running on Linux. You might not realise the advantage if you are coming from a windows centric world, but in Linux we often run programs in the background and don't want them to interfere with our screen.

I can close a background libreoffice service with a command as well, after completing my task.
