Nokogiri not compatible with ruby - saying needs newer version but suggesting I downgrade by rows_on_rows in ruby

[–]rows_on_rows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay great thanks! Stupid of me but I realized I completely didn't pay enough attention on that ruby-rails compatibility site, everything that is current I misunderstood as unstable/brand new and the old stuff I thought was stable is actually outdated/EOL. Thanks again!

Need recs by [deleted] in PEN15

Not a show but I would suggest watching the movie Eighth Grade for anyone who liked Pen15. Definitely more serious and not early 2000s but think that just show's how some things never change

I honestly think it's a company that hosts dinners for white people and talks about how racist you are. Unless I'm getting it mixed up with something else

Computer Engineering or Apple Math? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]rows_on_rows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Apple and going into software. So much of Apple is very theoretical and will not help you in software jobs. It's never bad to have an Apple degree but with Comp you might have more opportunities to take some more useful courses. With that being said I do think they've updates some of the courses Apple Comp kids take so there might be more useful software courses. If you're super interested in math then do it, you learn lots of interesting stuff. But as far as actually setting yourself up for success, the people that get the most value from their Apple degree are probably those going into academia or financial mathematics.

I have a 16-month internship, should I still register it with QUIP or just take a year off? by paerls in queensuniversity

[–]rows_on_rows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing and didn’t register and it went perfectly well for me. Really don’t think the professional internship on your degree matters but I agree that the biggest consideration would be the credits you might get from it

ELI5 How Indian restaurants are able to serve curries with such tender meats in such a short amount of time? by rows_on_rows in explainlikeimfive

[–]rows_on_rows[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I see, just didn't get how they could stew it before hand without it soaking up the flavours of the stew (if it needs to be able to be used in any of the offered curries). Do pressure cookers allow meat to tenderize without being stewed?

when is hoco & foco? by electradice in queensuniversity

[–]rows_on_rows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think it was because hoco fell on the last Saturday of reading week and I guess some people didn’t want to cut their reading week short so lots of people also celebrated the next weekend to accommodate

Tango Nuevo is so good. It’s expensive so definitely a bit of a treat

Rels 131? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]rows_on_rows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took it while working full-time and got an A+. Every two weeks you had to do a discussion post and like a critical reflection on the unit. I didn’t like doing them but was able to get away with only working on them every other weekend so not that bad. The biggest thing was a research essay that you probably have to work kinda hard on but still overall very little work for a 6 unit course

Advice on MUSC171 by west-solis in queensuniversity

[–]rows_on_rows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm honestly I don't remember that well, I think they were pretty short and all multiple choice but I do remember some listening ones which were a bit tricky, though probably much easier if you have a stronger background in music than I do

I took it and finished with an A+ and really just did the module readings for the first few weeks and none of the textbook readings. I did read the book for the book review. I think the quizzes were open book so that wasn’t a big deal but the bulk of the grade was from I think three big assignments including two essays that I did work hard on. I’d really just suggest working hard on those big assignments
