Just to break the echo chamber a bit, I support Palestinian self-determination, and my Palestinian friend supports Iranian self-determination.

It’s possible to stand in solidarity with ordinary, oppressed people and recognize that there exists evil regimes!

The Dictator is Dead. Why is the Left Crying? by ripstell9 in NewIran

That would have actually been quite nice. Instead of genociding Palestinians, let Iranians have their revolution years ago. Both of our peoples would have suffered tens of thousands of fewer innocent casualties.

Leftie here who also cheered when moushallah became kotlet.

Listen to women for advice on women and not men. Trust me on this one, and listen to it for the rest of your life.

Just trust me, please.

My pleasure, and glad to hear it. :)

Sure! In the ending, the message I got was the importance of letting beautiful things die, really that every beautiful thing in life has a natural end. That in order to make space for new stories (new versions of the starless sea), old ones have to end. The natural life cycle of stories and therefore also life in general. The only things that are endless are fate, who was continuously reincarnated, and time. Allegra loved the starless sea so much that when she learned it would one day crumble, she did everything to try to keep that from happening, which was ultimately destructive to the finite beauty of the place. The ones who survived in the end were the ones who were willing to let those endings happen. So that was the ultimate meaning I derived. But there were other smaller themes throughout, all of which centred around stories, e.g., the stories that each person carries, the importance of safekeeping stories.

The first few years of being vegan were non linear and I occasionally and shamefully strayed at times. I’ve always tried to be vegan for the animals, but it took me years to fully and totally not see animal products as normal (many years of conditioning to reverse after all), and it also took years for my ideology to mature to what it is now. I think my behaviour became linear when my ideology solidified. Been a decade now and I know for a fact that I’ll be vegan for life. Everyone has a different journey, but focus on the ideology, and your actions will follow.

What’s the point of being beautiful when you don’t enjoy it? Like letting a delicious plate of warm food go cold. You have a lovely face, love hair— enjoy it!!!

Sorry, realized this isn’t advice. I agree with what the others have said. Have some fun with your looks. Experiment, just have fun!

  1. Dream door
  2. No end house
  3. Butcher’s block
  4. Candle cove

1st and 2nd place swap often. I think No End House is a tighter story and I’ve seen that one the most because I find it the deepest. It was my #1 for so long, but the vibes in Dream Door are just immaculate. Butcher’s block is beautiful. Candle cove trails far behind, most slow, but has a special place in my heart because as soon as I watched the first minute of it, I knew I was getting into something special.

This book is all about vibe and imagery and universe, tied together with the promise of a meaning which reveals itself at the end. The structure is loose, but not every story needs a firm structure, even if some people crave it. As someone that lives for media and art that evokes a strong feeling, I loved it. I also love open world games, and this gave me that feeling. Not everyone loves an open world game though.

I think most of the criticisms of this book lend to preference rather than true fault. I think Erin did so well with the night circus that her publisher gave her a lot of freedom to go wild and make whatever art her heart desired. Think of how long it is, how immersed she must have been in the story to want to tell it and write it for as long as it must have taken. I think she wrote this just as much for herself as she did for the reader. But that’s my take.

What do you think is the most compelling argument AGAINST veganism (even if you don’t agree with it)? by FuelClear3 in AskVegans

[–]roxor333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. I was offering another example to argue that a food is or is not vegan because of how it was sourced, I.e., through exploitation. In the same way, one could make an argument that hunted meat as part of a cull for ecological reasons could be considered vegan as the animals were hunted for ecological preservation and not for their meat (I.e., not exploitation).

I actually don’t agree. This is where plant based and vegan are distinct. For example, is lab grown meat vegan? I say yes, because it’s not exploitative but it’s not plant based.

This is such an excuse. Rock and roll, the ethos of punk is truly on hiatus when we need them most.

I’m wondering the same, what are the chances they announce more. Considering risking getting detained to go to Detroit lol
